What would satisfy you, and make you say, well, he did the right thing? Since he is now in the USA, under US jurisdiction, does he have a Fifth Amendment right to not incriminate himself in potential criminal charges?
Personally, I think this is what I would do.
I would liquidate all my assets and turn them into cash. I would hold back a few million for myself and my family to live on, and go to a nation that would protect me from extradition, like Seychelles. Then I would give all the rest of my personal wealth (which might be hundreds of millions) to the individuals most directly affected by the spill, starting with the eleven families of the dead workers. And then go and try to get some sleep, which I think might be nearly impossible.
A million dollars is not a lot of money. WalMart pays a million dollars per lifetime per employee in wages, even for the greeters.
Hayward himself is no more criminally responsible for this spill than, say, the CEO of Midas Muffler if a family is killed in a crash for mis-installed brake pads at their shop in Kalamazoo. The CSO of a company has more things to concern himself wit then micromanaging the operations on a rig.

There is a witch hunt out for his head....I'm considering to go to BP for gas now....to me this is going to far, it could easily have been Shell, Citgo, Hess, etc..
Most BP stations are charging additional for payments by creditcard that is why I don't go there. I want my reward points, and not pay more to pay with my cc.
$11 per hr x 40 hours x 52 weeks x 45 years (age 20-65) = $1,029,600.
Anybody making less than $11 per hour is probably eligible for things like food stamps and other public benefits, and social security from age 65 to 80, which means a working American is almost guaranteed a million dollars in a lifetime.
Which also means that if you win a million in the lottery, you can't even quit your job. because that's not enough to live on.
In Seychelles, the government (I've heard) will give me instant citizenship and a passport, for a cool million up front. I'd need a couple more million to live on the rest of my life. The Gulf victims can have the rest of my money, I'm out of here. I hope this will fix things that money can fix. I'm sorry. Have a nice day.

Our obnoxious, preening, bloviators in DC won't have any of that type of talk, now.
What was said abpout "not letting a good crisis go to waste"?
When do we see Dodd and Frank being question like the CEO of BP, because of the housing mess that they were guilty of forcing the then government to lend to almost everybody....IMO that cost this country way more than the oil spill!
Stupid me...they are Dem. and Dem. are entitled to do it to others but they are above any law.
I live fairly close to the Louisiana coast and I have gone down to the swamps to help clean. My friends there have a lot of camps that are getting oil on their property and any help they get is worthwhile. This is the best thing to do for now, clean up whats hitting them. I would like to hear Tony Hayward say, "Obama, congress, stay out of our way!"
You folks who watch your TVs see what the stations want you to see and not what is happening. Our government is in the way! Sure, it makes for a nice show, "Give the CEO of BP a hard time and let the public see it". But is this shakedown of BP doing anything in the area of cleaning up the mess? NO! Its a HUGE dog and poney show. If these folks in our government really gave a rats ass they would drive down to the coast of whatever state they liked and grab a fricking shovel and a plastic bag to really help clean this crap up. Instead, they would rather LOOK AS IF THEY WERE HELPING BY GOING ON A WITCH HUNT! They, our government, is on a quest to overtake BP, the one company we need to suceed so they can continue to help. But most of the citizens of the US (that arent effected by the spill) just want a head on a plate. We need that head to help!

And let us kill as many people and destroy as much of the environment as we please...you read our memo, it said Who Cares!

Ya, I'm sure once Tony and his murdering thugs get done being picked on by those Really Mean Guys in Washington, you'll see them all down at the beach helping out the "little" folks...
Hey! Maybe you can get their autographs or have Tony himself give you a blessing!!!!
