As I said in the other thread about this topic: Isaac Asimov wrote a story about a KGB agent who before being sent to the US is taught all four verses of the Star Spangled Banner in order to "seem American". When he arrives in America, he gets busted by the FBI because everyone knows that no American knows all four verses by heart.
Oh, thus be it ever when free men shall stand,
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that has made and preserved us as a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust";
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Too bad we couldn't teach the extra verses in American schools. Too many references to the dreaded "G" word....
Woodrow Wilson shortened it to the first verse only. It was adopted as such. The first verse. Wilson wanted to get god out of our lives, so government could become the peoples god.

You couldn't be more wrong about Wilson. He was very religious and sanctimonious, to the point that many of his opponents bashed him for his mixing religiosity into government. He wasn't as much of a Bible thumper as Bryan, but he was a Bible thumper nevertheless. He was DEFINITELY not secular at all.

Oh, are you one of those who think the word "god" is banned in school? Jesus. Pun totally intended.
