San Angelo, TX (AHN) - A man died Tuesday after he caught on fire and was tasered by police in the front yard of his Texas home.

Juan Flores Lopez, 47, was holding gasoline in his hand and a lighter. The police report said he poured some gasoline on himself and then threw the container at police, who were not hurt during the incident.

Police said they do not know what ignited the fire, but the Texas Rangers were being investigated over the lighter found in the yard. Lt. Bob Bullock said they are investigating whether tasers are capable of igniting a fire.

Whether or not the Tasers actually cause dthe spark, the cops SHOULD NOT be held liable. This dude is obviously a looney toon and is probably trying to get cops to kill him so his family can sue and make millions.

But overall, Tasers are a HORRIBLE idea... we had a ton of lawsuits from people who had heart attacks (young and old, sick and healthy)... these things cost taxpayers a fortune!!

Cops - bad guys prone to overreaction in even the simplest of
matters. Anybody who thinks a local Texas cop acted rationaly
toward a latino didnt stay away from the brown .
I hope family is going to be happy in thier new mansion paid for by the citizens of San Angelo.

Tazers are, usually, a lot less damaging than a bullet! The guy committed suicide. End of story

Your headline was inconsistent with the headline in the news article.

To date there has been no legal/medical proof that the use of tasers caused a heart attack in any human. It is a decent alternative to deadly force. During training I rode the "lightning", it was not pleasant, but beat getting shot. The taxpayers are not out anything from the legit use of the taser.

Tasers save lives and prevent injury both to the officer and the person being tasered. Every officer that carries one has for the most part been tased themselves. During a recent re-certification, we were told never to tase someone after they have been pepper-sprayed. Apparently, the pepper spray is flammable. I will not Monday morning quarterback, because I was not there and I know how much the media distorts things.

An overstatement you can not support. Try reading the book, "Signal Zero'.

From what I have read there was no malice on the part of the officers, and they acted in a restrained manner, given the suspects overt actions. No liability incurred.

We didn't used to have people committing many horrible crimes and acting out in crazy ways like this in America, even by young people, but this all started to change for the bad with illegals since the 80's here in CA and it gets worse and worse, even in older illegals. Just look at Mexico/So. America over the years and you see it all, now it's here.
