I would love for the drawdown to start sooner, however, I am very pleased that they have come up with a date. I guess VP Biden has more pull than we thought
Even better, Petraeus is now on record saying that he agrees:
they can hit the boondoggle switch any time they want to, as well. I don't trust either one of them... The US won't be happy until it has the entire Middle East eating from it's oily hands....

This is great news and i'm glad petraeus has rational thinking as well. Next year obama can finally call for the real "mission accomplished", bringing our troops home.
"I've never said that troops should be withdrawn. What I've said is, is that we've got to make sure that we secure and execute the rebuilding and reconstruction process effectively and properly, and I don't think we should have an artificial deadline when to do that."

I'm split on this issue. I prefer opposing invasions, but once the first soldier sacrifices his/her life, dynamics change. That person died for a reason, and it was not a mistake. Although, now that the leaders don't really lead wars, but issue orders from some of the most secure places on the planet, mistakes are common. Iraq, for example. Next time, we should demand that the President and the Congress be the front-line troops if they must see the need to start a new war.
Afghanistan was started on a ground that few could disagree with. Bush had 90% approval rating at the time for goodness sake. It was sad that we had to do something that should have been made avoidable in the 1980s... either by not poking our nose training and sponsoring Al Qaeda against the Soviets or not leaving the place irresponsibly.
A similar situation exists today, except that the Al Qaeda influence has grown, and the issue much more complicated.

And of course these comments were made in reference to Iraq.

Of course Patraeus backs Obama.....he'd be a fool to push against the CIC after the McChrystal event. This shouldn't surprise anyone. More importantly, it should be taken with a grain of salt. Once the General digs in deep with his own gameplan, I believe its reasonable to expect that his opinion of how the war should be ran will change. But only after the dust settles from the McChrystal fiasco.
