President Obama speech on July 4th 2010.

"We celebrate the principles that are timeless, tenets first declared by men of property and wealth but which gave rise to what Lincoln called a new birth of freedom in America — civil rights and voting rights, workers' rights and women's rights, and the rights of every American," he said. "And on this day that is uniquely American we are reminded that our Declaration, our example, made us a beacon to the world."

Lets see why in the world would our president you call the founding fathers TENETS of this nation "men of property and wealth"? These are the men who risked their lives, property and wealth for the vision of liberty. What has Obama had to give up or what property or wealth. What wealth was earn and what battle field did Obama bleed on for liberty against a EMPIRE! Did he as a patriot fight for freedom or have it handed to him by the founding fathers and the rest of the men and women who have struggled for freedom and resist to GOVERNMENT POWER!
Those rights are called unalienable rights not voting rights, or women's rights, or civil rights these were added to the constitution so they could be clarified and defended as UNALIENABLE. Workers rights were created by workers and are not unalienable rights or even part of the constitution.

Issue is Obama thinks the founding fathers were just men of wealth and power and just like the constitution and the rest of America it is his playground. What is wrong with men of wealth and property last time I checked you have property and wealth but I never knew the founding fathers to be ADDRESSED as the means for and or the reason for our independance. The American revolution was in the heart of the people before the men of wealth and property even thought of revolt.

Obama we know where you stand on liberty of the individual it has come clear to us all that even on July4th your propoganda machine is in full swing. Pure leftist, socialist/communist goals of changing the history and view of the founding fathers. In one sentence you labeled the founding fathers as rich white men who had no interest in the "common man" because their was no REASON to use wealthy and property together when discussing JULY4th!

Tenets means principles.

Where he used the word tenets, substitue principles.

"Principles first declared by men of property and wealth, but which gave rise to a new birth of freedom."

Meaning that the principles of equality and freedom were espoused by men of privilege, but the principles were to apply to all people, thus giving rise to a society where property and wealth could be obtained by persons not born of privilege.

What hope is there for discussing anything when folks lack the most basic reading skills?

Please define what tenet is to you; and I'm pretty sure presidents 23-44 never shed blood (literally) in a war. Maybe even farther back than that; not really sure. You (or anyone else) can debunk my statement with the facts b/c I am not one who condones falsifying facts.

Ok so if you read what obama said...
tenets first declared by men of property and wealth

Princples (tenets) first declared by men of property and wealth.

To Obama these men where of Property and wealth nothing else is said as if property and wealth was their only defining moment.
That is how he describes the founding fathers. Maybe something like this would be more fitting of the founding fathers.

Men of Princples!!! Wealth and property have nothing to do with the princples of liberty only your right to pursuit them if you so wish.

The founding fathers fought in the revolution risked their lives and freedom, treasury and possible capture at the hands of the british and its loyalists. A tenet is a princple if these men were of princple Obama praises the princple then paints them as men of wealth and property of which have nothing to do with the princple. May men in the revolution with nothing fought for liberty of which had no property or wealth but understood the princple.

Of course not.
It was seen and copied from somewhere else, right down to the comments.

More manufactured outrage over zilch.

Yes and this is what I see..
We celebrate the princples that are timeless. End of thought.
Tenets(Princples) first declared by MEN of PROPERTY AND WEALTH was transformed into a nation of lincoln and other rights listed above.

So Obama is saying even though the men of property and wealth created the declaration it took lincoln a NEW birth of freedom to give us all the stuff we call America today.

If you wanted to say a nation of PROPERTY AND WEALTH then I think that might fit. Notice its MEN of property and wealth. Its not men of princples this is the classic why liberals view the founding fathers has rich men who wanted to keep their money for themselves and property for themselves and it wasnt until lincoln that american became what it "should be"

Obama and the socialist types use this as common knowledge to break down the sense of where the American revoltuion was born and the founding fathers who understood the liberty that was from the creator.
Another part of which most liberals dont like to acknowledge.

The Founding Fathers were for the most part men of property and wealth. Are you denying that?

Obama's point was that at that time social stratification was very rigid. Men of property and wealth enjoyed privileges that others did not. Wealth and property was passed on to the next generation. He is honoring our Founding Fathers for designing a society where social stratification became more flexible. Where, even if you were not a person of wealth and property, you had the opportunity to become one. Where the idea of "all men are created equal" was a contradiction of the traditions and rules that the Founding Fathers knew and benefited from.

When Obama notes that the Founding Fathers were men of property and wealth, he is noting, by inference, that these men were generous and progressive enough to embrace a system where, unlike before, the privileges that were once reserved only for them were now made available to all men.

They had to grow some more, to expand the concept to include minorities and women and so on. But they were a beacon to the world because of their selflessness.
