More broadly, job cuts began shrinking just as the stimulus was going into effect last year, and the stock market began rising shortly after it passed. The stimulus was by no means the only reason, but it appears to have been a significant one.
Based on its economic models, the Congressional Budget Office recently estimated that between 1.4 million and 3.4 million workers who have jobs would be unemployed if the stimulus hadn’t been enacted. Three of the best-known private economic research firms — IHS Global Insight, Macroeconomic Advisers and Moody’s Economy.com — have come up with similar estimates. The average estimated effect on employment is about 2.5 million jobs.
Nariman Behravesh, IHS Global Insight’s chief economist, has a nice way of summarizing what the bill did (and, to some extent, didn’t) do: “It prevented things from getting much worse than they otherwise would have been. I think everyone would have to acknowledge that’s a good thing.”
Only if you count government jobs. Census workers were hired but that comes to an end soon. Maybe those that make signs are being put to work. The government is paying millions of our tax dollars for signs that say how great the stimulus money is being spent. The sign makers are doing ok, I guess.
Actually...I hear that there are jobs being created in gulf around the cleanup efforts. Maybe that was President Skippy's "stimulus" plan---to ignore the spill and create a crisis to use.
One has to look at what the stimuls bill was passed as and what it became. Remmeber no one but a few had even read it being so large. It was sold on the floor of the house and senate as a massive infrastrucutre big that would provide massive jobs and keep unemployent under 8%. What it turned out to be was a specail interest bvill mostly.30% went to techers . The infrastructure when look at by CNN; no conservative media;was eqaul to the Boston Big Dig project for the whole country in their words.

I think if you look at "Where the money is going" at recovery.gov (and articles on the subject elsewhere) you'll see that most if not all the states awarded many, many contracts to private employers.

A top unemployment rate of 8% wasnt a promise or a guarantee; who could promise something so crystal ball-ish? If you believe Obama promised it, please give a link to a quote.
Massive infrastructure: much infrastructure work is being/has been done. Check your state at recovery.gov.
Special interests: could you give links to that? Shame on the states if they played favorites with the money.
Is that the same CBO who has recalibrated its analysis of Obamacare so many times that no one knows for sure just how expensive the law really is?
What do you mean,"recalibrated"? Using what as the reasons for "recalibrations"? Do you mean they'd come running out waving a new paper and crying, "Wait, wait, it's really THIS much"? I know the RW media doesnt want you all to look at this stuff beyond Coyote v. ACME level, but....
Whether it worked or not, doesn't matter. We'll be paying for it the next fifty years.
