Editing the tape to make it look like someone was behaving illegally and promoting it to the world is actionable in civil court.

How to Use Libel vs. Slander Correctly | eHow.com

Look at No. 4: Use the libel term when the defamation of character comes from audible media. Now, most courts consider defamation of character made during a radio or television broadcast to also be libel, even though the defamation was spoken.

What is the law regarding recording someone (audio, video, camera) without their knowledge? |

Privacy laws vary with the legal jurisdiction and the answer to this is completely dependent on where you reside. But in general terms, you are not permitted to record an image or voice of an individual without their permission.
<snip>
In many jurisdictions, such activities fall under copyright law. This might seem a little odd at first glance, but does make sense. A person who records your image or voice without permission and then uses it for personal gain may find themselves in trouble. They could be required to turn over all recorded material, the profits from their sale, and face a punitive fine.

Eliciting information about a criminal enterprise and then immediately reporting it to the police is acting like a jackass? Really? It seems like responsible citizenry to me.

What part of they doctored and edited the film did you miss?
O'Keefe's dishonesty is not a positive attribute.

Too bad any editing cannot and never will be proven. This will end up a he said, she said thing with the video evidence on one side and nothing but hearsay on the other.

LOL. The blatant display of hypocrisy and double standards is astounding. Keep up the good work, sicko!
