The WTO has just released its World Trade Report for 2009. Data shows that the USA is still the largest exporter of merchandise and services combined in 2009.
Can you people please STOP complaining that "the USA doesn't make anything any more"?

Merchandise/Commercial Services/Total
U.S. 1,057 470 1,527
Germany 1,121 215 1,336
China 1,202 129 1,331
We lead in commercial services. How is that manufacturing?
Exports is exports. It doesn't matter if the country sells manufactured goods or provide services. Both make the country wealthier. I don't know what your point is.
By the way, the USA manufactured 1.057 TRILLION in goods in 2009.
This country still manufactures a lot and I am sick of the "we don't make anything anymore" mantra.
How could a unionized, and "socialist" (The poorly educated GOP's version that is) country like Germany be whipping our butts in the capitalism arena? I'd like to see the right wing zealots try to honestly answer that one.
We may lead the world in exporting movies, reality shows, video games, fast food joints and financial services but seriously Walmart and Hollywood can't replace good old fashioned manufacturing jobs as a career path.
At least for those that don't want a generation of Paris Hiltons and American Idols running amok.
And that doesn't count the debt exported! If that were part of the balance of trade, we'd have a huge surplus.
