I wonder, compared to Obama, what George W. Bush would do about:
BP
Health Care Reform
Immigration Reform
Unemployment
The Deficit
Personally, I think he would NOT govern much differently than President Obama.
They are nearly the same guy!
1. Would not impose restrictions on oil drilling like Obama has done. Also, he would have been at the areas affected by the spill within a week. Would have accepted help from foreign nations-including Russia-that offered to help with the spill. He would not have kissed the butt of every foreign leader out there, would not have taken vacations during the BP event as Obama has done. and finally, he would have talked with pride about the US as a nation, something that Obama never does.
2. Would have listened to a majority of Americans who opposed the healthcare bill.
3. Would have talked about immigration reform, but would not have gone against the will of the people on this issue, specially suing a State over controlling its borders.
4. Would have tried for more tax breaks, but the Democrat-controlled Congress would not have allow him to do so. However, he would have done about the same Obama has done in relation to the bail-outs.
5. The same about the deficit.
6. There is a big difference between Bush and Obama: Obama is a complete leftist (socialist-communist), while Bush is socialist in some issues, and conservative in a very few other issues. Bust is just "slightly" more conservative the McCain, but it's hard to tell the difference.

Other than that, I don't care much for either one.

They're not the same guy, at all. Bush was not the best President by any means, but still much better than Obama. Going through the topics one at a time:
BP: Bush would have been more responsive and would have placed fewer hurdles in the way of assistance and relief (waving the Jones act, accepting foreign help sooner) and never in a million years would he issue a moratorium.
Healthcare: Bush would never sign the disastrous Obamacare package. He supports tort reform, though his preferred policies would not get through Congress.
Immigration: Bush was weak here, though he wouldn't sue AZ over SB 1070.
UE: would be lower under Bush, who would not be raising taxes and regulations nearly as much, nor would he be demonizing businesses. He also would not have signed in a stimulus bill as expensive or bad as Obama's, though his own stimuli (tax rebate checks, etc) were a joke themselves.
Deficit: Bush was bad on the deficit, but still much better than Obama. I think W's average deficit was around 3.2% of GDP, while the deficits under Obama are closer to 9-10%. My guess is the deficit under W would still be high now, but ~ 1/3 less than under Obama. That's a difference of several hundred Billion $/annum, not just a buck here or there.
As you can see, a weak (R) is still much better than Obama. The weakest (R)s are noticeably better than the best (D)s, while the best (R)s are orders of magnitude better than the most liberal (D)s.
1. BP probably would have used other countries offer of help more than Obama. Don't think he would put as long a moritorium on drilling in the gulf as Obama has.
2. Health care reform Don't think it would have passed without an override of Congress. He would have vetoed it due to lack of price controls particularly about practicing defensive medicine.
3. Immigration reform Wouldn't have sued Arizona. Nothing else has been done by Obama on immigration, so it would be the same as under Bush.
4 Unemployment might POSSIBLY be lower under Bush as I think he would have been more aggressive in making changes to tax codes for the unemployed to become sole proprietors (ie better deductions for health insurance purchased etc) to get them off the unemployment rolls.
5. Deficit Not sure if there would be a real difference here in the total deficit, rather just what the deficit would be spent on. I imagine his would include more tax cuts to business to help create more jobs as opposed to more govt job creation of Obama's stimulus plan.
"If George W. Bush Were President Right Now..." the Constitution would have been suspended and we would be living under martial law.
Why? He had 8 years to do it (with overwhelming Republican majority in Congress for much of that time) but didn't. What SPECIFICALLY is happening now that would lead you to that conclusion?
