Republicans and conservatives want to address the spending aspect before we visit a need to raise taxes during one of the greatest recessions our nation has ever witnessed. IF, after massive cuts to government spending there is a documented need to raise taxes to cover the budget shortfalls, then we can address the issue of raising taxes. But to do so now, during a recession, is idiotic and extremely shortsighted. When the government proves that it can spend within its means responsibly and eliminates pork and waste and duplicity in their programs, then I'll be the first to get onboard with a tax increase. Until then, they should stop looking to the American taxpayer to continue funding their pet projects and BS.
but why the tax cuts now if we are only going to have to pay for them later?

They are against any funding that will raise the deficit and have shown they will use every political method to block any government funding of any program that increases the deficit. IE: extending unemployment or providing any stimulus for states and cities to keep firefighters, police and teachers from losing their jobs. Yet as Fareed pointed out today, the deficit would plummet by 35% in 5 years if we did absolutely nothing except let the Bush tax cuts expire. I would like my esteemed colleagues on the right to explain this obvious dichotomy . If the repubs are so worried about the deficit then why fight the expiration of the Bush tax cuts???????

You should post more often. Your pointed observation and sharp wit bring much needed rational debate to the discussion.

The answer is to STOP SPENDING! Not simply raising taxes because our government is spending us into the poor house, they need to stop spending, and start cutting all unnecessary programs.

0bama has increased the federal budget by 18%, we can start by cutting the budget by 25%, that would only be 7% below the wild Bush era spending.

I would like to know...
1- When was the last time government spending was cut, deficits reduced, at a time of major recession?
2- When was the last time government didn't increase tax rates to reduce deficits instead resorted to tax cuts.
3- What exactly was the additional but massive spending being done on, during Bush era?
4- How would you rank the economy thru the middle of the Bush's two terms?

But its not. So stop trolling and stick to the point. What is of greater concern to you? Deficit or Tax Cut? And let me remind you, one is tied to another.

No they are not.. The 2003 tax cuts increased revnue to the federal government almost immediately. Of course you can sit here and ignore this, but only a fake Einstein would do such a thing.

Clearly, you can't see the reality that has been repeatedly presented to you. Please provide a reference to a credible economist that would back up your claim, who doesn't see tax cuts as having immediately adding to the deficits.
