It seems as though the President (or his aides) choose to take the helicopter instead of driving for a very short trip. It was about a twenty minute drive.

Obama takes chopper for 6-mile trip - Abby Phillip - POLITICO.com

Is this wasteful or appropriate?

I have no problem with the decision. As a person of great influence and power, he did it because he could. The First Lady went abroad on her recent vacation because she could. Just please do not lecuture us on corporate executives flying on private jets instead of taking Amtrak.

you do realize that it is not just one helicopter that goes, it is three. and they change position constantly so that people on the ground dont know which chopper the president is in, thus making it harder to take down the right chopper. same with the motorcade. all the vehicles needed to throw people off as to which car the president in actually in, and the back ups, the ambulance, etc.

i agree, i dont care if he takes the motorcade, though it would disrupt traffic for a long time, or if he flys in marine one. either way it is going to be expensive, and they are the only ways to take the entire presidential entourage with him.

but i also agree that he needs to stop the complaining about corporate CEOs flying business jets.

Awwww come on. All Progressive elitists in this administration deflect and point the finger at others so no one pays attention to their own behavior. Why would Obama attempt to be any different?

I'd venture to say that most CEOs don't have folks out to kill them every day. Get a grip folks. The leader of the free world, whether he/she is a Democrat, Republican or an Oompa Loompa, needs and deserves the perks and protections of the office. I bet when the other party was in office, the complaints on here were the same. Just from different posters. Spare us all your righteous indignation at these petty and unjustified concerns. Save your wrath for what is really important. This isn't in the grand scheme of things.

Oompa Loompas Say "Pelosi Must Go!" Demand rebuttal time for the next State of the Union.

It's not whether the President flies or drives. It's the hypocrisy of his criticisms sort of like the Hollywood people and their lectures.

Do you seriously not see the difference here? He is the President of the United States and his transportation and security are directed by the Secret Service and others. He has no choice and he must be protected. And he makes a salary of what - $300,000 a year? The CEOs and movie stars make millions and use their planes indiscriminately. They HAVE a choice. How can you possibly compare them? No matter what you think of Obama and his presidency, you are comparing apples to oranges here. And it makes you all look really small.
