Living in CA,I know many people wh are well off and vote Democrat. They do it almost totally because of social issues, whether it be gay issues, abortion, gun control, whatever. To quote Jackie Mason, who was talking about how Jews vote,"They live like Episcopalians and vote like Puerto Ricans". I'd say their are just as many people who vote Democrat just on social issues.

For me I am pro abortion I believe the government needs to offer abortions for free.
I sometimes wonder why bleeding-heart liberalism doesn't extend to the unborn as well.

I'm essentially wondering how many socially conservative fiscally liberals there are out there.
I'm pretty conservative socially but liberal on economics. And I've met some social conservatives (not many) who are the same way. Evangelicals are hung up on abortion as the deal breaker, and that's what keeps so many from voting Republican. If the Democrats were more receptive to the concerns of anti-abortion folks, you'd eventually see a movement toward the Democratic party among that crowd.

I don't get that either. THe main thing that makes me liberal is because I'm concerned for the weak and less fortunate, and in my mind, you can't get any weaker and helpless than an unborn kid. I can understand the pro-choice stance, but with some exceptions, I have to side with the baby. It's my conscience.
