In the letter, Perry criticizes Obama’s plan to send 1,200 National Guard troops to the entire border region, writing that it’s not nearly enough.
“The need for border security along the Rio Grande should no longer be underestimated by the federal government, Mr. President,” Perry wrote. “...the deployment of just 286 National Guard personnel along the 1,200 mile Texas-Mexico border is clearly insufficient," saying that, "...the purpose of this letter is to reiterate the dire threat amassing on our southern border in the form of international drug cartels and transnational gangs, and to again request sufficient federal resources to combat the increasing violence.”
Perry stated that the state has spent “hundreds of millions of dollars in state funds” to “fill in the gaps where the U.S. Border Patrol is stretched too thin.”

Well, at least Perry is finally stepping up to the plate. Wonder what brought that on?

As President Obama landed in Austin, Texas this morning, Republican Governor Rick Perry was there to greet him. There were smiles and handshakes. Then, after the President moved down the greeting line, Perry handed a letterto Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett.

The Democrat candidate for Gov is campaigning in other parts of the state and will not be meeting with the head of the party.
