But certainly a substantial portion. for most Americans it is more than 50% of their retirement income.

The point is, it is a failure at what it was supposed to do.

There are ways of fixing it. But democrats dont want to do that because it would take those funds away from them.

Sorry for misrepresenting what you said...it was unintentional. I do agree with everything you've said, and will add that it was inevitable, as life expectancy grows, that it would not be able to continue w/out upping the retirement age.

...and so it goes...as times changed so should the tax breaks, as we cannot afford them now.

Look at what happened to the deficit after Bush's 2003 tax cuts. Then look at what happened when the Democrats gained control of Congress (AND the budget and appropriations bills):

You have the nerve to talk about an oligarchy after you just supported the above? You deserve 3 for that one..
The aid to the states is already paid for. If you looked into it, the money is coming from closing some corpoarte tax loopholes.

The tax cuts will add monstrously to the deficit and do virtually nothing to stimulate the economy, as we've learned.

The federal government HAS to give money to the states. States are not nations, they cannot control economies, nor can they produce money, they have to cut money and their budgets to operate. Many states have run out of their savings over the past few years. If the federal government doesn't step in to help, then the states will be insolvent and bankrupt....and what then is the point of our federation. If states can't function-no lights, no roads, not schools...then forget it, we just dropped to a third world nation. Do you want that? It sounds as if you do.

You should look up what an oligarchy is. See: Russia. the control over all, by the will of the few and the rich. It is a scourge of western civilization. and this is the road the Repugs are taking us down.

I think I’m gonna rep you! I don’t even agree with everything I say! LOL! J/K

Seriously I don’t think it was inevitable. There have been dozens of chances to change SS going all the way back to the 1930's so that it would work far better.

Republicans were talking about changing the system to a individual owned account as far back as the 1960's.

Many nations do this now.

Beyond that, all the money from SS has gone to the general coffers and the SS account is given Treasury Bills. The problem is, as we move forward, there isn’t enough money coming in to pay for those who are retiring because that money has been spent. We could have avoided this. But democrats have blocked reform time and time again. it is sad really but here we are and people like me wont get a blessed dime from the system even though I will pay in until I die.

Do you know why the defict increased when Obama took over as President?
No I don't think you do know?

Neither of the Bush Tax Cuts, nor the Wars, nor the Drugs Program were added to the budget.

So Obama added them to accurately reflect the deficit. Things look great if you're only looking at the postive side of life. They suck when you look at the whole picture.

hypocrisy [hɪˈpɒkrəsɪ]
the practice of professing standards, beliefs, etc., contrary to one's real character or actual behaviour, esp the pretence of virtue and piety

carry fire in one hand and water in the other To be duplicitous, to engage in double-dealing; to be two-faced, to speak with forked tongue. The expression comes from Plautus; it continues “to bear a stone in one hand, a piece of bread in the other.” Thus, the expression indicates that a person is prepared to act in totally contradictory ways to achieve his purposes.

Yep, pretty much sums up Boehner's stance on the issues.
