Ahh, such peaceful people living under peaceful Islamic Law.
I agree, we need to just cut our losses and get the heck out of there. There is no "winning" in Afghanistan. Leave some undercover ops and intelligence gathering personnel, but bring the rest of our troops home and out of harm's way.

I at one time thought we were doing a good thing in Afghanistan but the more I see it the more I realize that these people will never change. They are to set in their butt-backwards ways and don't want to come in this century.

They never wanted to..we forced our way in there.
We went searching for Bin Laden..that was our mission.
We failed.
Now we guard the poppy fields for them.

Meanwhile, back here in the States...

Currently in the United States, 1 in every 31 adult persons is either in jail or prison or on parole or probation. That amounts to 7.3 million Americans and a cost that exceeds $68 billion annually. This figure does not include juveniles accountable to the U.S. correction system.
While I'm in no way condoning the stuff they do over there in the ME, we sure as hell need to come up with something better as the US prison system sure doesn't seem to be deterring too much crime.

Back in the '80's I read Ken Follett's novel "Lie Down With Lions", which takes place in Afghanistan. This was before they had their war with the USSR, and I didn't know much about the country. After I read the book, I remember thinking, "I would never ever want to go there."
Fast forward to now, and my opinion has not changed one bit.
