All of this hysteria over the mosque feels like a religious war against Muslims.
Do you believe that he should be allowed to build a building on a site he owes 1/4 million dollars in taxes on? I don't care if he is Muslim or what that should not be allowed. That would make it tough on the mayor, though, to have to enforce the law on a Muslim.
Right, but you wouldn't even be talking about it if there wasn't a cultural backlash against Muslims. This has a lot more to do with a culture war than whether or not the builder has paid his taxes.
I think it has a lot more to do with 9/11 than the whole Muslim culture. THis building was damaged by the landing gear of a plane, and is too close to Ground Zero for such a grandiose plan. Other mosques have been inthe area for decadeswithout problems. Heck, they are even currently using this building as a small Mosque without problems.
IMO its the scale of the planned Mosque added together to the location that is problematic to people.

Then the people of New York need to change the zoning laws to outlaw all religious buildings within a certain distance of Ground Zero. If they try to only outlaw Muslim centers, it will be struck down as a violation of the U.S. Constitution.
