The House passed the healthcare bill by employing the Senate in a bit of sleight of hand.
HR 3590 originated in the House as the service members something or other benefits revenue something (see official title below). It then went to the Senate where the name (see official title below) and text were replaced by Harry Reid with the Senate version of their healthcare bill. It was then sent back to the House for reconciliation.
OFFICIAL TITLE AS INTRODUCED and passed by the House: To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to modify the first-time homebuyers credit in the case of members of the Armed Forces and certain other Federal employees, and for other purposes. <<<< YES! The original HR3590 that became the healthcare bill.
OFFICIAL TITLE AS AMENDED by the Senate and reconciled by the House:
An act entitled The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
The original House bill would not have passed the Senate but the bill had to originate in the House, being an exercise in revenue increase.. a budget. Therein the Senate sleight of hand, modifying a House bill.
So, it's not like the Republicans had the opportunity to block the healthcare bill. They can block other bills by preventing them from getting out of committee, those 60 votes the Dems keep trying to manufacture.
People don't really buy the Dem line. The Dems keep saying it is so, expecting eventually it will become true. Something akin to revisionist history in action.
The Dems were able to pass the healthcare bill with the vote of Paul Kirk who was appointed to fill the seat vacated by the death of Ted Kennedy. When the special election was held Scott Brown defeated Martha Coakley and the Democrats lost their filibuster proof majority. Now the GOP is blocking anything and everything.

The helpful spending?
You mean like the $1 TRILLION stimulus that FAILED miserably?
Isn't that enough spending for you?
How can $50 billion succeed where $1 TRILLION failed?
obama is completely clueless about what to do, he is flailing and desperate....and it turned out the critics of the Failed Stimulus were RIGHT.

I think its Dems my friend , they don't have 59 Dem votes so they cry over the 1 Republican needed .
Bring Carbon tax to a vote and well see if it comes to one vote. I know the house has plenty of Dems .
