Did it say in the article that these people were definitely MS-13, or did he suspect they were?
You don't fire a gun into the ground in a populated area. It's dangerous and stupid. More than likely either the charges will be dropped or he'll be able to plead out.
And I love it that people use mythbusters a "proof". Jesus.
Not using it as 'proof,' but it's also common sense for anyone who understands materials engineering and physics and just has experience firing the damn things in various conditions.
I'll fire my gun at the ground any time there is someone on my property who actively threatens my life or that of my family. I'd rather 'endanger others' (especially if others are disrespectful thugs who are threatening my life and saying they will kill babies) than allow even the slimmest chance that my family or my dogs got a scratch on them.
This is my half acre of land on this planet...you come here and try to start some sh*t, that's the end.
With me it's a personal distaste for guns. If a gun is what you want, go for it. Just don't try to hand me one.
Your pallet might undergo a dramatic change should you find yourself in your home with an armed burglar kicking in your back door ... but in your case, you're likely not to be tasting much of anything other than the fear of defenselessness.

What about the innocent bystander who gets shot? Most cities have laws prohibiting the discharge of a firearm in a residential neighborhood. This moron discharged an AK 47. He's lucky he didn't kill anyone.

Those laws have overriding circumstances. This is one of them.
It did, but he got arrested, evens it out. IMHO, his story sounds hinky.
Let's see: gang members get to exit stage right after successfully threatening innocent's life, and innocent gets arrested. Government tries to trump darwinism yet again.
Your understanding of what equates to "evening out" is about as deep as your understanding of what materials cause a bullet to ricochet LOL.

Wrong again. It doesn't take a hard surface to ricochet a bullet. Trajectory enters into the equation.
Again, something about this guy's story does not add up.
