Considering our borders are wide open and very little of what comes into our ports is inspected, I think we have just been lucky so far. It will come though. They are very patient people. If a Democrat is elected president it will be easier for them.

We've had more terrorist attacks since 9/11

Maybe, just maybe, a little Divine intervention? I do think it is a "when", not an "if", so we as individuals need to be prepared. As citigirl states, these fiends are patient, they have had millennia to ponder their dastardly deeds and have found that the time is ripe, when there is no leadership here to "stand in the gap".

Perhaps if we did not waste all of our resources in a war that has nothing to do with protecting our own nation, instead acting as a magnet for terrorism and killing of our fine troops, we could then better use those resources at home for port security, intelligence, special forces targetting specific terrorist cells.

Well, let's see. The first attack on the World Trade Center was in 1993. The second was in 2001. That's 8 years. Now, add 8 years to 2001. That's 2009. I wouldn't expect anything sooner than that. Especially, because regardless of who is elected, there will be a new President, and al Quaeda is not dumb -- they know if they throw a punch at a new President, it will hit us at a vulnerable time. That's why they waited until Clinton was gone to hit us again.

Here is the saddest part of that entire time line. In the beginning, they were wrong about waiting. Bush was a strong, resolute leader who won the respect of the World for taking the fight to the enemy. He responded quickly and in a forceful manner with the war against al Quaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan, He had a true international coalition backing him, and the full support of the American people, even those who did not vote for him.

And then, the dumb son of a goober blew it. Ultimately, it has played right into the hands of al Quaeda, made the terrorist threat much worse than it would have been otherwise, attracted untold numbers of new recruits to the terrorists and made them smarter and stronger.

They have every reason to believe it will work again with a new President, regardless of who it is. In the meantime, they don't have to attack us -- they have already killed more Americans in Iraq than they did in the World Trade Center attack.

Our borders are wide open and the Bush Administration's own intelligence estimates have indicated we have had terrorists come across our southern border. Even if we do get hit again, it probably won't happen for another year or two. They wait, they're patient. They don't want to just hit any target. They want high profile targets and they will hit us again without regard to whether it's a democrat or republican sitting in the oval office.

So far, it's just been luck that we haven't been hit again.
