Show that Franklin didn't accept God but was just some kind of deist! (Congress, revolution)

I think the OP's post proves exactly that Ol' Ben was a diest, and not a bible thumper as the OP wishes were the case.
The circular logic fail is just way too funny! It's as if posting that cheese is the end all of all things...and yet try to prove it with Swiss cheese. Full of holes, and only applicable with certain caveats.
Did you notice why he said those words and when? It appears that most so far didn't read the whole thing. Here is what he was doing right from the post.
Benjamin Franklin, Motion for Prayers in the Constitutional Convention, 1787
Why would someone, not a Christian, worry about doing that?
Anyway, no need to spin, I'll just "old Ben" speak for himself.
As to Jesus of Nazareth, my Opinion of whom you particularly desire, I think the System of Morals and his Religion, as he left them to us, the best the world ever saw or is likely to see; but I apprehend it has received various corrupt changes, and I have, with most of the present Dissenters in England, some Doubts as to his divinity; tho' it is a question I do not dogmatize upon, having never studied it, and I think it needless to busy myself with it now, when I expect soon an Opportunity of knowing the Truth with less Trouble...." (Carl Van Doren. Benjamin Franklin. New York: The Viking Press, 1938, p. 777.)
Is there a chance that old Ben was getting on in years and that he thought he may find out without trying to do so? I think that could be why he said that but then progressives aren't about to accept that line of thought.
get your butt to church and quit wasting our time here
The man was arguing with the other members of the Convention about why they should open daily with prayer. He said that a God who could see a sparrow fall would be a good one to have on our side when we attempt to create a new nation. Read the words that were printed there, or do as I think you should, join those who don't read my posts because they know to begin with that they won't agree.
Can I hear an Amen, AAAAAAAAAAAmen. Praise the lord, thank you Jeeeeeeesus. Aaaaaameeeeeeen.
Well now let me thank you for feeling that way about the words the man spoke in arguing for opening daily meetings with a prayer. I guess you didn't read that part, did you?
Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful. --Lucius Annaeus Seneca
In the beginning the church was a fellowship of men and women centering on the living Christ. Then the church moved to Greece where it became a philosophy. Then it moved to Rome where it became an institution. Next, it moved to Europe, where it became a culture. And, finally, it moved to America where it became an enterprise.--Richard Halverson
I do not find in orthodox Christianity one redeeming feature. --Thomas Jefferson
If it weren't for Christians, I'd be a Christian.-- Mahatma Ghandi
If you have two religions in your land, the two will cut each other's throats; but if you have thirty religions, they dwell in peace. --Voltaire
Man is a Religious Animal. He is the only Religious Animal. He is the only animal that has the True Religion—several of them. He is the only animal that loves his neighbor as himself and cuts his throat if his theology isn’t straight. --Mark Twain
and last but not least...
A fanatic is someone who cannot change his mind and will not change the subject.—Sir Winston Churchill
Was Churchill talking about progressives who tend to be a bit fanatical? I think he may have been doing just that.
It is well known that this nation wasn't founded by Christians, but that many of them were Deists, and had a belief in God.
Doesn't mean that they were right, doesn't mean that they were wrong. We won't know for certain until we die, and if we should have believed and didn't it will be too late. Whereas if we believed, and we were wrong, that nothing bad will happen as a result of that.
I think that taking a chance leaves one on the outside looking in especially when he is trying so hard to destroy Christianity or any other religion.
Show that old Ben didn't accept God but was just some kind of deist. Spin away.
"I have lived, Sir, a long time; and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this Truth, that God governs in the Affairs of Men. And if a Sparrow cannot fall to the Ground without his Notice, is it probable that an Empire can rise without his Aid?" --Benjamin Franklin, Motion for Prayers in the Constitutional Convention, 1787
I'm thinking you probably wish you could take this posting back. A deist IS a follower of God, but not a follower of religion.
But Conservatives think they're G-d and have the right to judge what is right and what is wrong before him. If the religious right took a few pages out of the Bible besides the ones condemning others once in awhile, we probably would have a kinder society.
Did you just say that all libs are progressives? I don't believe that as some libs believe in Christian teachings also. Now progs may have taken over the Dem party but that doesn't make all libs, progs.
