If you are seriously going to reduce the deficit the best thing to do is NOT cut taxes. I agree that reducing spending would help but the combination of reduced spending and not cutting taxes is far more effective. Remember that the interest rate on the debt owed by the federal government is huge.

In essence it's like paying off a giant credit card. You take less time pay off the card and pay less in interest if you don't reduce your payments and you stop adding debt.

CUT the SPENDING.

Progressive morons think they can keep increasing social entitlement programs when those programs have been driving our country deeper and deeper into debt. One that now sits at almost $13.5 Trillion.

U.S. National Debt Clock : Real Time
Social Security and Medicare take up about 20% of the federal budget each. You can make system more efficient but the payments are going to continue to be made. Another 20% of the budget is defense spending. Now that is ripe ground for budget cuts. Only 14% of the federal budget goes to programs to help the poor.

If Americans are SERIOUS about cutting the budget deficit then WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO STOP BEING THE WORLDS POLICEMAN!

Risky though - letting the tax cuts expire on those under $250K would theoretically bring in $230B/yr. But there would also be lower economic growth, which reduces all revenue sources and increases outlays. The deficit situation could actually be worse than if the cuts are extended...

You can't keep cutting taxes and expect Government services to stay at the same level. The cost of living keeps increasing which is something we can't control. Goods and services cost money!
As for a lower deficit? Cut the military budget in half! Why do have troops in over 100+ nations? Outside of entitlements the Defense budget eats up a huge chunk of our budget.
Your infantile name calling tactics only prove you have no solutions as well.

Necessary and Viable Government services can stay at the same levels if the waste and inefficiencies are weeded out.

What part of wasteful Government spending does the left not understand?

Three pages all about Gov’t spending/waste; where’s the talk about people spending/waste? When I was in elementary school (1970s) a lunch lady took her arm & swept unopened containers of milk into the garbage pail. I made a comment & she said we’re getting more tomorrow. This is not Gov’t waste--this is people waste.

This accumulative behavior of the people over the last 40+ years is a major reason why we have increased taxation & wasteful tax spending. The local people/local Gov’ts’ enable wasteful behavior so they can get their entitled share of Fed/State tax money for their school, fire/police dept., etc… Our Gov’t has little choice but to be passive about this waste because it creates jobs for the peoples’ ever-growing population.

Niether. We have not had a budget surplus since former President Clinton, and we all know why the deficit is out of control now, 2 wars, banks holding America hostage, Wall Street Greed, decline of the middle class working people. The U.S. cannot wage wars and CUT taxes. But, we are paying for it.

Yes, our government should suspend all contract from Halliburton,
and other contractors who gouge the U.S. Government. Does anyone recall the $300.00 hammers and the $500.00 toilet seats from years ago?

This rhetoric from right wing politicians would be more credible if they had something to show for it, or even made sense in their arguments.

No, giving tax breaks to Paris Hilton, Lady Gaga or even President Obama won't improve economic growth. Tax breaks ought to be targeted... you get it if you deliver. Otherwise it is nothing but oligarchy.
