You know the Tea Parties were originally started by Ron Paul, a libertarian? But then the GOP establishment co-opted the tea parties and made it into a big-tent thing because they fear they will topple the pro-big government establishment

Yes but usually the people that only want to keep one or 2 things intact, are very big government programs. Case in point: Education and welfare
Cut all defense spending other than protecting US soil, cut social security, cut medicare, cut all foreign aid money, cut unemployment benefits to a three month maximum, and refuse to pay federal money to bailout any industry from here forward.
After that is done, we can re-evaluate the state of the country and make additional cuts from there.
