So someone who has 4 kids collects $3,200 a month on welfare? Show me the proof, or shall I say show me the money. Until then I'm not convinced.

I don't know what the figure is and it will vary by family size but I'd imagine a family of four is going to get $10K to $12K in housing and food stamps alone. Add to that all the other benefits available, some of them really know how to work the system and there is lot available. Heating for example can be paid, I had customers on the LIHEAP program and back in 2000 the average customer was probably getting about $600. They'd get about $300 or $400 dollar grant for the year and then about mid season they would apply for an "emergency" grant for another $200 or $300. All those little things stack up.

So you have no proof, you just pulled those numbers out of thin air. Make claims and offer no support to back them up.

What a stupid waste of money.

Just take a hair sample. There's no need for blood testing which is quite expensive and, which is quite intrusive and invasive, and I'm certain the Supreme Court will squash that.

You can also issue C-TAG cards.

C-TAG is Cable/Satellite, Tobacco, Alcohol and Gambling.

Every state should issue C-TAG cards. If someone gets busted for DUI or public intox or some other alcohol related offense which proves their too child-like to enjoy a glass of Chianti with a big plate of Fettuccine Alfredo, the state reissues the card with a big "T" stamped on it and they can never buy alcohol.

People on the dole would get card stamped with CTAG in big red letters and they couldn't buy lotto tickets or scratch offs or go to the casinos, or buy alcohol or tobacco and the state welfare workers ought to be calling the cell-phone and cable companies and canceling the services.

It pretty much sucks that I can't afford cable but I have to subsidize somebody's food so they can spend $120/month on the premium channels and the sports packages and another $60 a month so the can text their dealer.

yes, poor americans should shut the hell up and be grateful they get a dime.

Should the poor in America shut up and be grateful that they don't live in the same conditions as some kid in Cite Soleil or the flavelas of Rio? Perhaps a good old fashioned outbreak of cholera or typhus would make them ever so more grateful.

Of course on the other hand, I don't see a lot of working poor folks rushing to join the ranks of welfare recipients because of all those cool bennies that they are alleged to get.

I'd like to see that, too.

As for the physician exams, you still have to pay the doctor, nurses etc. and for every 1 person you 'catch', you may have 50 that are perfectly fine... that's a lot of money wasted chasing people.

I'm all for getting deadbeats off of welfare... but that just doesn't seem like a sound practice.
I highly doubt that 49 out of 50 welfare recipients is going to pass a drug and alcohol test.

Take the cost of the drug tests out of the welfare check, that way there's no addictional costs.

it's easy. just make them pee in a cup once a month. that would automatically eliminate 75% of recipients. it doesn't violate anyone's rights. beggars can't be choosers.

Add up all the housing, utility payments, food stamps, WIC coupons, free breakfasts and lunches at the schools, EITC, TANF, and Medicaid and I would suspect it's considerably higher than that.

It would take that kind of money for a mother with 4 kids - imagine if she were working, people would say it wasn't enough money to live on.
