No they cannot be married at all because the very act of marriage is a religious act. They can however enter into a domestic partnership and if they wish to have a "signing ceremony" with an "atheist official" they may do so.

Would they have the same legal rights as a married couple?

A married couple would have NO legal rights unless they also had a Domestic Partnership contract. Marriage is a RELIGIOUS activity and should not be recognized in any civil matter.
Would you care to explain your views on gay marriage, gay rights, women's rights including things like birth control, abortion, etc? Do you think sex change operations should be allowed?

I'm willing to bet that their views are very similar to yours
I know gay Muslims, and gay-friendly Muslims. I know Muslims who perform abortions. what is the big deal? You think they are all wrapped in headscarves and stoning women? Every religion has its spectrum of beliefs.
Same. I have Muslim family on both of my parents' side and also on my wife's side, and I'm gay, and obviously so is my wife, and none of them have a problem with it.

I've known gay right wing Christians. If they exist you can bet that gay Muslims exist.
This week the muslims.
