No they cannot be married at all because the very act of marriage is a religious act. They can however enter into a domestic partnership and if they wish to have a "signing ceremony" with an "atheist official" they may do so.

Would they have the same legal rights as a married couple?

A married couple would have NO legal rights unless they also had a Domestic Partnership contract. Marriage is a RELIGIOUS activity and should not be recognized in any civil matter.

Oh really? Dang, that's tough but I sure wish people wouldn't vomit their personal issues all over public forums.

Well, no question for liberals, but I'm curious as to their responsens to the responses from muslim posters.
I'm willing to bet that their views are very similar to yours

Same. I have Muslim family on both of my parents' side and also on my wife's side, and I'm gay, and obviously so is my wife, and none of them have a problem with it.

Check it out:

I'd be willing to bet at least a certain percentage of Al-Fatiha members are devout.

I've known gay right wing Christians. If they exist you can bet that gay Muslims exist.

I have a female-to-male trans Orthodox Jewish friend. He's not only "out" but accepted in his community.
