I'm curious what people are predicting. The last 2 years with a Democrat controlled house, senate and president have been an economic disaster for the country. Unemployment is at near record levels and holding or climbing, foreclosures are at records, debt is out of control. Clearly what we are doing now are not working. If the Rs get majorities in the house and senate, and deliver on policies that reduce government spending, the debt and support economic growth, and if they can get them through Obama without his veto, how long do you think it will take for the economy to turn around? Specifically for the unemployment rate to fall below 6%, foreclosures to drop and housing starts to take off?

If we continue on the current trend the economy will be well on the way to recovery by mid 2012 with unemployment below 6-7% and most of the real estate bankruptcies ended. If we actually let the obstructionist Republican regain any control of policy the recession will just get deeper and deeper for the middle and lower class and the Haves and Have Mores will come closer to their goal of Having It All. An economic recovery is detrimental to the Republican goal of creating a aristocratic society. I expect the unemployment under the Republicans to be over 15% if you count the people that would be kicked off the unemployment insurance roles.

I also expect the Republicans to get us into a disastrous war with Iran and possibly Pakistan.

Many if not all economic decisions take into consideration different types of lags. If the recession did in fact end last summer as many are now saying it can take a while for that to represent itself in the UE numbers (knowing that employment is always last to turn after a recession.) In other words things can very well be ironing themselves out right now, but it takes time to see actual results that are tangible to Americans. That being said, anything the GOP does won't be felt for a year or two down the road if they are able to enact any economic legislation.

It's similar to the nimrods who claim everything went down the toilet as soon as the Dems took power of Congress. It simply doesn't work that way. Yes the timing is one thing, but that does not mean a correlation, economics doesn't work like that. Likewise (if they are able) nothing the GOP can do will make immediate change.

My bet is that Americans will begin to see more concrete results of the economy turning either way next year. If the GOP is in power then everybody will jump the bandwagon and claim UE went down because of them. Which again, doesn't work that way. It would be best if they stayed the minority so Obama can get credit where credit is due. However at the same time I think it's important that America see how little these Republicans have to offer. If the GOP take Congress in November they can, and mostly likely will prove disastrous for their party in 2012.

No time at all, we will plummet into Third World Status and never recover.

That's another thing to consider. If the GOP took control they'd boot UE and also try and take newly phased in health care benefits away from Americans. I can't think of anything more crazy than that, but that's what they want to do. Do that, and see what happens. Screaming from the sidelines is one thing, actually screwing people is quite another. Most GOP faithfuls have a serious empathy deficit, but in real life when you're the one getting screwed you change your tune real quick. It's not just Democrats on UE and getting their children insured now.

The DemocRATS have been in charge of congress for the past 4 years. San Fran nan hs done her best to run the country in to the ground. Banking queen Barny Frank did his best to turn a bad housing situation into a disaster. Then for the pat 2 years Obama has made sue he passes as much of his socialist agenda as possible, taking full advantage of the current economic disaster while ingoring any solutions to fix it. Why let a good disaster go to waste?

Once we get control back in January things will turn around much quicker than they would with the socialists still in control. Wal lStreet hos more confidence in proven Republican leadership than in the income-redistributing Dems. I predict that within 6 months of Republican leadership the economy will be well on its way to a healthy recovery. Unemployment will be down one to one and a half points by then. Currently, with the dems in power, it is still trending up.
