Yes, abortions increased and then went down. Also, these statistics are for 'legal' abortions and does not take into account all the 'illegal' abortions, for which I am sure, there are no valid statistics. It is quite likely that for every 'legal' abortion, there were five 'illegal' abortions.

Now that it is legal, much better records can be kept and compiled.

Why? Especially of other non-life threatening medical procedures are covered by medical insurance?

That's the same reason liberals favor high cigarette taxes, is it not?
The taxes on cigarettes are used to offset the health costs associated with cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease, emphysema and other illnesses associated with cigarette smoking. There are no such costs associated with having an abortion.

The thing is there are health reason to discourage cigerette smoking. There are no health reason to discourage an abortion. As long as a woman has the right to choose then she should have the right to get one.

Then why don't you discourage or ban fried foods, red meat, processed foods, all which are proven to be bad for you and shorten your life?

can I woman choose to kill her child because it's not convenient to her, but I cannot choose to smoke in my own bar?

PS, not everyone woh smokes gets cancer, and not everyone who smokes and gets cancer dies from it, but EVERY child aborted dies. But you don't care. ME ME MEI SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO WHATEVER I WANT, THE WORLD REVOLVES AROUND ME!

Sorry AM, you ran away from that discussion an hour or so ago.

But if you want to rejoin it again, then please, come up with those "empirical facts" instead of irrelevant dictionary definitions.
