ok this is just a pet peeve, but really, it is ridiculous to spend 300.00 in Kroger and if you buy a 6-pack of Amstel they ask for ID- I mean they are really alienating customers.

I don't care about state law- if they have too many kids buying -that is not my fault. To hand my DL over to a 16 year old kid who loudly reads out your birthday is NOT good customer service. I never experienced this problem in Florida....

This is the classic example of going overboard. Like,ok,they sold beer to someone underage last week...I know, let's card EVERYONE from now on! Even though not law in NY, there was a chain of stores that would card everyone. I was in line behind a 70 year old man, confused, fumbling around looking for his ID so he could buy a cheap 6 pack of beer.Just stupid. I never bought another thing from this chain.

I agree. They have alot to learn. People will just shop elsewhere- and we are the good customers who give them their profits- it's ridiculous. in NY they would at least recognize/respect you and move on. It's like a group of followers- thinking they are doing something good-lol.

Yeah, there was another thread started by John1960 about this. Silly.

And if they actually had a 16-year old selling you beer . . . that's illegal.

For a while there I had to show my ID whenever I checked out an R-rated video from the library. There was a new state law making it illegal for a minor to check out an R-rated movie, so the local library decided to card everyone (no matter that I certainly do not look like a minor). Now they have self-checkout and the whole thing has gone by the wayside.

A grocery store carded my 57-year-old aunt. She said, "you're kidding, right?" Cashier said, "nope." So my aunt left a cart full of groceries in the checkout lane and did her shopping somewhere else.

I recently got denied admission to a night club for not having my ID. It was an 18-and-over show and I look every bit of my mid-30s age. When I asked them to be practical, they gave me the stupidest response in the book: "If we encounter a medical emergency, we need to be able to identify you." No you don't; you need to pick up the goddamn phone and call an ambulance. If that were truly a concern, every place of public accommodation would require ID from everybody all the time. I think some people just like to be pedantic jerks.

One of these days we'll need a license to operate a lawn mower.

Default Id

I was carded in Albuquerque once at a Circle K to buy a pack of cigarettes. I was 48 years old and the girl that asked for my ID was about 20. So I asked for the manager and told her I should ask for the sellers ID to make sure she was old enough to sell them to me. I was applauded by the people in line. How silly this law is. Yes some people do not look 21 and some do not look 40, but they do look 30. Well over the legal age. What is this country comming to?????????????? We even have illegals who are not illegal as they are permitted to work, drive vehciles and receive health care at the tax payers cost. So how can the government classify them as illegals if they know they are here and there is no repercussions.

Yes- another idiotic law that does nothing. They actually hire 16 yr olds- then you have to wait for the "manager" (so to speak) or some other clerk who is 21 to ring it up- how stupid!!!!

I already emailed Kroger(they are a nice store) but really none of us have security in the US and they over police stupid minor issues
