Isn't this mean-spirited? There's a good reason why we set up a food stamp program in the first place. Charities aren't able to fill all of the gaps. Sometimes people really do need help, and have nowhere else to turn.

Interesting. They don't want to reduce the number of people who need foodstamps to begin with--they just want to cut services to the one in four kids who depend on them now to keep from starving.

With an empty piggy bank, all these give-away programs are coming due.
And I see Dems just adding more.
Maybe their solution is to have everyone on food stamps?

You're right.

At some point you have to stop spending...like it or not, sometimes that's just the way it is.

Get rid of all of these programs. Seriously, why is it the government is responsible for taking care of everyone?

You know what would happen if government was cut out of the equation? That is, a major limit on taxes across the board and a cut to all of these abusive social programs?

It would mean more money in peoples pockets. It would mean that everyone has the chance to earn for themselves and each would be judged by their own actions. That is, if you choose not to excel, you would be the one responsible.

It appears the democratic position is to absolve responsibility. I mean, we can't have people being individually responsible, that would mean they wouldn't need to rely on the garbage hand out promises of the left.

You want to know who oppresses the poor? It is those who seek to hand out to others. They are no different than drug dealers looking for a steady income.

The food stamp program *as it stands now* should be eliminated. Which does not mean you should let people starve.

However, people should received "credits" for WORK (YES WORK) that they do. Participate in a highway cleaning team - 20 credits; work at a community child-care facility for po' people - 50 credits. And these credits, in turn, can be exchanged for food stamp benefits.

Get these lazy, good for nothing, worthless bums up OFF THEIR BUTTS and contributing to society in some way. If nothing more than CLEANING TOILETS AT THE AIRPORT.

I do NOT support giving people anything, for sitting on their ample asses and breeding the next generation of welfare losers.

Laugh my arse off. It’s funny when people begin espousing ways to trim the federal budget when they obviously have no clue as to the major expenditures. Check out this site:
The 2010 Statistical Abstract: Federal Budget--Receipts, Outlays, and Debt
The largest expenditures by the federal government are as follows:

commerce and housing credit = 758 billion
national defense = 690.3 billion
social security = 680.5 billion
medicare = 430.8 billion
health care = 353.4 billion

Add these up and you get 2,913 billion dollars, 72% of the whole governmental budget. How can we trim these to facilitate lower taxes? The obvious and only real way to reduce government expenditures in terms of social programs, is to kick the old folk off the dole…. For anyone in politics, that would be political suicide.

And where exactly did Gingrich advocate for the abolishment of food stamps? Oh that's right..he didn't.
Another BS thread.

Read his memo. He makes it very clear that the campaigns should focus on the NEED for foodstamps, which have gone up dramatically under a Dem-controlled Congress and now WH.

What would YOU rather have...a paycheck or foodstamps? That's the message.
