The problem with eliminating Incandescents is so many people have such a hard time coming up with a thought of their own that. CFL's come on much slower then Incandescents and will hinder a bright idea.
So your ideal world is one where you can be forced to work for nothing next to children who work 12 hour days and where prostitution is legal and men can be paid 100 times what women can be paid for the same job and where gender can be used against you? Well, isn't that special. Sounds like a Soviet gulag.
Well consider we have two coal boilers with a design that has been in production for about 1/2 century, one cost $7K and the other cost $9K. These are identical in all aspects except the higher cost one has a ASME stamp. In other words it is certified, keep in mind both boilers could have been made one after the other.
The certification is required for commercial use and in some states for residential use. I believe Mass. is one state, so if you live there and want coal boiler you're going to pay $2k more than me for the same thing.
The worst regulations are those that inhibit your right to make things better. For example, it is now a felony in many states to videotape police brutality. You will be imprisoned for taping the commission of an obvious crime by those who are sworn to uphold the law. I think most homeowner's associations are ridiculous enforcers of stupid regulations. However, I am very pro-regulation on business since it is business which commits the most crimes against society through the abuse of employees, pollution of the environment, and all crimes that come under the 'white collar' umbrella. Business doesn't have a right to exist, only people do. Why we extend this trait to economic activity is startling.

How predictable is your response? Yawn.
None of that stuff would happen. And everyone with any brains knows it.
Interesting I'm talking about eliminating laws and your are saying I want the world to be like the former Soviet Union. I don't know if you noticed but they had all the same kinds of laws you support.
I guess you are the one that supports the Soviet gulag.

I often wonder how people get through life with such a ****ty opinion of their fellow man.
St Louis, Missouri: It is illegal to sit on the curb of any city street and drink beer from a bucket.
The bucket part comes from going to the local bar and getting a pail of beer as take out, I'd imagine this would be before bottling became popular. My Uncle told me about doing this as a kid. His father would send him down the street for it.

I grew up there, my dads family was from STL.
My dad used to tell me about his grandfather sending him down to the corner tavern for a growler of beer, too.
Just thought it was a pretty silly regulation, although I like the elephant one better!
