So, in addition to the stress watching their parents circle 'round the drain financially, the children of the FS recipients will be denied the occasional chip, soda, or sugary snack and be forced to eat nothing but off label foods (say what you will, not all generics are as good as name brands) thus ensuring that they are continually reminded by their new restrictive menu choices that they are now "poor," and don't deserve the occasional treat or the name brand boxed macaroni and cheese.
That should be a republican wet dream. Block unemployment benefits and when the people qualify for food stamps tell them what food items they can or can't purchase. That's two legs of a trifecta
It's only since the "stimulus package" that the FS benefits have even been available to single no dependant households, but who knows when that will just vanish along with extended UE as COBRA subsidies and the FAC stimulus allowance for the UE which already have (as well as the $2400 income tax threshold for UE benefits).
That's not the point. The point is everyone would be raising hell if Pizza Hut took FS, but under the haven of a grocery store...it's ok.
In actual fact there are "waivers" that allow certain segments, ie the homeless or the elderly with no cooking facilities available, to purchase 'hot food' with their FS allotment, but they require further interviews and forms, plus reviews.

Absolutely correct.
It would be nice if Aldis had more locations. They have good food and snacks. But restricting to just discount stores will never happen. Wal-Mart and the other big chains would definitely have something to say about that. If it weren't for FS many of these places would be much worse off right now.
It is interesting, however, to see how when lights come on there not always bright.
Forget it...I will explain. People would be upset if you could go to Pizza Hut and buy a double pepperoni and extra cheese with FS, but it's ok to buy the same kind of pizza at a grocery with FS.
But you CAN buy a ready made pizza at Papa Murphy's Take n Bake with FS (as it's not COOKED - you have to do THAT in your own oven.)

I hardly EVER had any store bought soft drinks, sugary snacks or chips when I was growing up and we certainly weren't POOR, it was just the way our family was raised, and it sure didn't make any of us "deprived".
ETA: It's funny that pizza has evolved from "crap" to "something you can buy in a restaurant so you shouldn't be able to buy it at a grocery store".
BTW people, Aldis has GREAT rising crust pizzas for something around $3.68. Add some shredded cheese, pepperoni and some spices of choice and you have yourself one hell of a great tasting pizza. (All bought at Aldis)
