Social security is a hand out. In most cases you take more than you give. Lets tell old folks what they can and can't buy with their checks?
The better idea is to abolish it, let me keep my money and do what I want with it. People that have already paid into the system will get what is due to them.

But that is only because you are forced into the system. many people can't afford ss tax and a retirement plan. If you gave the people a choice between opting out of ss and investing on their own, ss would then be a hand out.

If you had a choice between ss and a private retirement plan, and you chose ss. I think any ss funds withdrawn above and beyond what you put in plus the meager interest would be a handout.
Yes if we have to have the food stamp program I would prefer that junk food is prohibited. Afterall the N in SNAP is supposed to stand for Nutrition.
It's gotten to the point where I can tell who's going to swipe a food stamps card or not based on what's in a shoppng cart. The more junk the more likely they pull out the card and swipe away.
I even see people at 7-11 buying nothing but junk and paying for it with their tax payer (or printing press) supported food stamp card. I even saw one morbidly obese woman buy 10 candy bars with food stamps. I never saw anything like this pre-Obama. Speaking of which, if Michelle Obama is truly concerned about childhood obesity she would be pushing to prohibit food stamp users from buying junk food. That would do more to reduce childhood (and adult) obesity than ANYTHING she has done so far.
Food Stamps cannot be used to buy a shirt. Why, because a shirt is not food, it has no food value. Why should Food Stamps be used to purchase soda, twinkies, candy bars,.... all those items that have no food value?
Here in IL the WIC list is quite restrictive. I think it should be, as has been said before use your own cash to buy junk if that's what you want, but feed your kids something better with your food stamps. Nobody needs soda. But they do need a filling and nutritious meal.
"......Bloomberg and Paterson announced Thursday that they are seeking permission from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers the nation's food stamp program, to add sugary drinks to the list of prohibited goods for city residents receiving assistance. If approved, it would be the first time an item would be banned from the federal program based solely on nutritional value"
