I don't understand. If she underperforms on CBS, ratings-wise, (and she does) why would CNN want her and that huge salary? Any ideas?

They say the Spitzer show isn't doing well but why replace one underperformer with another?

"Friends of Katie Couric are saying the chances of her remaining at CBS are getting slimmer. CNN appears especially eager to sign Couric now that the new show starring ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer is off to a stumbling start. Jeff Bewkes, the CEO of CNN's parent company, Time Warner, yesterday said that CNN has the money "to pay for some of the biggest talent in TV news" -- just when CBS was saying that the era of the big-salary anchor is ending. "

If you watch CNN would Couric be a plus or a minus for you?

Couric is a very good reporter. She was very popular during her days on the today show and thought going to the CBS evening news would be "stepping up" but the show was already tanking and katie doesn't do well with that format. I think she would be a very good addition to CNN

CNN is in full panic mode at this time. Spitzer lecturing on morals, ha that's a good one. He's nothing but a disgrace. Why CNN would remotely consider hiring him makes you question their sanity. Hiring Couric is also a waste of time. Katie isn't that perky anymore. She's getting old and stagnant and has a history of leaning left politically.

Instead of competing against Fox and MSNBC with the same political talk show short on reporting long on hyperbole with yelling talking heads, how about actually produce something intelligent? Let's have INDEPTH reporting, lasting more than a 1 minute sound bite. Stop trying to push an agenda like you did with the Gulf spill. Use your global news outlet resources to your advantage.(After all when a big disaster happens isn't CNN really everyone's choice to find out the news on it?)
Maybe you won't get the political junkies, but they are a small sliver of the population anyway. Aim for a different point of view than the other talk programs: BE OBJECTIVE AND POLITICALLY NEUTRAL.

Diversity and Political Correctness.

Kicked one minority to the curb, have to replace him with another. Surely you didn't think someone of merit should get the job. That would be lucirous.

Katie Couric has nothing to do with CBS' ratings. It is CBS that is the problem. They haven't made attempts to make improvements over the years.

Why Would CNN Want Katie Couric? Hell the question should be "WHY WOULD KATIE COURIC WANT CNN?"

She is a good reporter, and very well liked........she deserves to be at a network that actually has GOOD ratings!

A direct quote from CBS's former President of the news division, Richard Salant. Our job is to give people not what they want, but what we decide they ought to have.

Well what the people want is scantily clad well endowed women who when you look in their eyes you can see the back of their skulls. Poofy haired plastic Ken doll-men who look more like a graphic rendition in a video game than a human being, offering up endless volumes of hollow hardly news as they spin in their chairs to three different camera angles or write on their chalk boards. The American public seems to desire a two syllable explanation for the cosmic inner workings of the universe and it damn sure better have dancing bears and butter commercials between segments. When the camera pans back, it should look modern, glitzy and resemble a 17 year olds Myspace page, complete with waving graphics and comic sans serf fonts.

When CBS adopts this format, they will be in like Flynn.

God knows Couric would be lambasted as an ideologue by the right-wing, she does have a tendency for asking tough questions....
