what does this have to do with whether Reagan was a good President and why conservatives loced Reagan so much? AM I missing something?
Nita
There is a reason why it was called the Reagan revolution. It wasn't because he was in lock step with the Republicans or the Democrats. Unlike the anti-communist that Nixon was, Reagan was a man of words and deeds. At least that's what the KGB said...
Quote:
"a firm and unbending politician for whom words and deeds are one and the same."
I put Reagan around the same place on the yardstick as Clinton. They were decent leaders with tainted administrations that overshadowed the more positive aspects of their respective administrations. However, I for the life of me will never understand the Reagan worship thing, but I suspect it is always easy to pine for the good ole days of yester-year, because then we have had time to selectively remember what we desire instead of being confronted daily with reality of the moment.

Is it not the same promise of the "Golden Age" (the one Reagan spoke of in contrast to 1,000 years of darkness) that plagued the 20th century, without the 150 million deaths of course?
The presidency of Ronald Reagan in the United States was marked by multiple scandals, resulting in the investigation, indictment, or conviction of over 138 administration officials, the largest number for any US president at the time.[1]

But because a President, and certainly a past President, is subject to prosecution in appropriate cases, the conduct of President Reagan in the Iran/contra matter was reviewed by Independent Counsel against the applicable statutes. It was concluded that President Reagan's conduct fell well short of criminality which could be successfully prosecuted. Fundamentally, it could not be proved beyond a reasonable doubt that President Reagan knew of the underlying facts of Iran/contra that were criminal or that he made criminal misrepresentations regarding them.

Iran-Contra? Surely you remember this? Unless you are a Reagan worshiper, then I suppose the answer should be, "I don't recall"
