But Congress gave themselves $3K/month COLA.
Last year they gave themselves 2.8% COLA.
Yeah..they certainly do care about the citizens of this country.

Don't you know they need that extra cash even though they receive a large amount of things for free from us taxpayers and lobbist? So what if they go on government paid vacations to Germany, Italy, or Japan under the excuse of visiting US military bases? So what if their travel expenses are all paid for by us? Don't you know booze, Cuban cigars, hush money to mistresses, and hookers cost them money they can't write off on the taxpayers? They need that money.
Let's lay the blame where it belongs - on the repub part of NO. Sen. Bernie Sanders announced yesterday that he will press for passage when Congress returns in November of a one-time, $250 payment to seniors and disabled persons facing the second straight year without a cost-of-living adjustment for Social Security. The average social security runs about $1,070 per month. Based on that, a $250 one time check would be about $5.00 under the normal increase per month.
Clip:
President Obama earlier this year supported a Sanders amendment to provide a $250 payment in lieu of a cost-of-living raise for Social Security recipients and disabled veterans. The proposal was defeated on March 3, when only one Republican voted to allow the amendment to be considered. Sanders to Propose Social Security COLA - Newsroom: U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (Vermont)
No, I blame Congress, both Republicans and Democrats. Their wasteful spending (both parties) and constantly drawing upon the SS fund is what got us in this mess and all because Congress has no need for social security when they leave office.

Byrd's family will receive remainder of his salary - On Congress: Byrd's family will receive remainder of his salarySeptember 28, 2010
Categoriesemocrats.Byrd's family will receive remainder of his salary
The must-pass spending bill pending in the Senate includes a little-noticed provision that would pay the family of the late Sen. Robert C. Byrd for the salary he would have commanded in the next fiscal year.
The Senate handbook says that upon the death of a senator who had been serving in office, “in the next appropriations bill, an item will be inserted for a gratuity to be paid to the widow(er) or other next- of-kin, in the amount of one-year’s compensation.”
As a result, the bill calls for “equal shares” of the late senator’s $193,400 salary to be split between Byrd’s seven children and grandchildren.
The practice has been long followed by both parties and in both chambers, including in 2007 when the widows of Sen. Craig Thomas (R-Wyo.) and Rep. Paul Gillmor (R-Ohio) each received $165,200 for the salary that the two men would have received.
But I thought the Dems were all about government spending. Why not just hand out a COLA to these poor people. Geez.
A cola is a "cost of living allowance" - we are at zero inflation, thus no cost of living increase. It simply is not a yearly raise
There was a COLA every year Bush was in office, because we had inflation.
