Add to that, few have the opportunity to better themselves or break the cycle, hence the fact that the US has so many ghettos. A poor person living in a Chicago, LA or Miami ghetto is 1,000 times worse off than a poor person living in Paris, London, Toronto or Sydney and you are far less likely to be shot dead in those places, or forced into a life of gang banging.
Every poor person and everyone living in a ghetto, or in poverty conditions in this country, are living that way because either they chose to by being lazy or by making poor decisions.
Every person has the same opportunity to go to school and get an education and make something of themselves. There are millions of people who came from the ghetto and made a success of themselves through hard work and determination.
Those that are too lazy or too stupid to make it out have no one to blame but themselves.
I was raised poor along with three siblings, by a divorced mother who worked a minimum wage job. Of the four children, I'm the only one without a Masters Degree, and all four of us are worth well over a million dollars, probably much more than that..!!
We didn't like being poor so we did something about it. It wasn't easy, but well worth the effort.
So don't tell me the underprivileged have no opportunity to better themselves, or beak the cycle. That kind of thinking is what cause ghettos, not lack of opportunity.
Lay around on your dead butt and feel sorry for themselves is why they are still poor.

We were pretty darn poor growing up and we were happy as can be. It all depends on what poor is, USA poor doesn't compair to some other countries poor.

Ever wonder why people look down on the poor in this country...because we all know people who make it out of those bad places or we know of immigrats that come here with nothing in their pockets and in a few short years have more than the average American. It's all about hard work. I'm sure we can all look around in our own places of work and see the same thing. Those who work hard move up and those that don't complain.

I think that the opportunity to make any kind of "decision" is limited when we're talking about people born into cr*p from the get go. It's a very different America for those living in the ghettos of our inner cities. I wish people would realize that.

Hard work does not always = success.

It's luck most of the time. But instead of just appreciating the fact that lady luck shined on them, the lucky here choose to **** all over the unlucky. It's kind of weird, at least to me.

Weird how luck has a way of finding the same people over and over isn't it?

Unfortunately, because of the economy, many are forced into poverty who don't want to be there. Yes, the poor get entitlements like, free healthcare, free dental for the kids, food, housing, money, utilities, free education, etc. Entitlements do not make a person happy. In fact, they probably make the person even more unhappy.

The poor person on an entitlement isn't using their talents or doing what they love. They just get an entitlement and that's what their life consists of. No more laughing or having fun, it is just a life of worrying if that lousy unemployment check will pay the bills.
