And how much power could those things generate? Just wondering since the wind farms on the Great Plains have vegetation the same as before the farms were installed. Why they are so far apart that houses and farm sites exist right where they were before the farm was built. I don't think many houses could be located among the "poles" in this system.

Lets wait for the Europeans to get this system working and see how it works.

Kerby, great find.
I wonder if I'll be seeing them sometime soon in my part of Europe.

Less bird kill certainly is a plus.

i like the idea, but i also want to wait and see how much power these fields can generate. it does look far better than wind mill farms do though.

That sounds pretty cool. Less moving parts (maybe??) might mean a longer life-span and less maintenance.

That just seems kind of unsafe to go walking around underneath them somehow...but I imagine if they can create that it'd be a cool thing.

I haven't seen any analysis about how efficient these are, but the concept seems interesting.

Will these really kill less birds? The wind turbine deaths are due to birds flying into them, rarely the blades because usually the blades arent moving really fast. This just looks like its a big vast area of space with polls where birds can still fly into them. Lets not even discuss the amount of wildlife/land being taken up. Not saying the idea is bad, just questioning if it really saves birds and worth the amount of land being used. Wind farms you can plant crops underneath for example, this doent appear to share the same benefit.

I have the opposite opinion. At least with current wind farms you can have crops in the area and the land can be used for farm, cattle, and other shared uses. This definately makes the land unusable for anything else. I find them much less appealing due to the lack of green space below.

Neat, it would be cool if they could develop smaller, personal ones that folks can put on their roofs or in their yard too.

Good point, I've seen grazing area in and around the wind farms in Northern Cal.
