For a hundred years in this country liberals/progressives have conspired and actively worked to steal the birthright of free Americans. I use the term "birthright" as a deliberate allusion to the biblical story of Esau and Jacob. If you are unfamiliar with the story you should read it. In summary Esau, the first-born of Isaac, sold his birthright to his younger brother, Jacob, for a meal of venison stew. The stew was made of game that Esau himself had hunted and killed. In other words Esau gave Jacob the very means to defraud him of his birthright.

In the same way we have been selling our birthright of freedom to the liberals/progressives in exchange for social programs paid for with the fruits of our labor. What is our birthright? Freedom. We paid for that freedom with a heavy price in blood and treasure. But bit by bit, slowly over the course of 100 years, the liberals/progressives have stolen our freedom as they worked to transform our limited government, constitutionally established, to one of unlimited power and scope that reaches into every aspect of our lives. George III did not exercise the control over the American colonies that government--both federal and state--now exercises over us.

Until Obama, the American people were like the proverbial frog in the pot of water being boiled to death by degree. Obama talked about fundamentally transforming America. But that transormation has largely occurred, slowly and unnoticed, over the course of a century. Obama's exremism only awakened the unwary frog and it jumped out of the kettle.

What pundits fail to appreciate is that the resistance to Obama and the Dems is not merely dissatisfaction with specific policies like Obamacare or the Stimulus. It goes deeper than that. It is resistance to a movement whose direction the American people are coming to understand poses a clear and present danger to our republican form of government and the liberties that government was created to protect and foster. So it's less about Obama and specific members of Congress or about political parties. Because the movement has proceeded under both Democrat and Republican administrations.

Right now the country is intent on giving the Republicans the task of righting the ship of state, of reversing course. But I believe the Republicans will find that they are on a short leash and if they fail to make substantial progress in dismantling the progressive project they, too, will face the wrath of the voters. The time of unlimited government has come to an end and Americans are reclaiming their birthright.

Thank you for your very thoughtful and concise summary of what is afoot in this land. Not too long ago most Americans would have been hard-pressed to define just exactly what was wrong with the status quo and what they would propose as an alternative. Now however, thanks to this current administration and the uber-liberal Congress, most of us know exactly what we DON'T want. We are fed up with losing control of our very lives, bit by bit. We are angry about working hard for our futures only to see them slip away with every dollar being mortgaged to pay for the entitlement programs forced upon us. Many of us are desparate for jobs that no longer exist and may never return thanks to the onerous burden imposed on the very companies that used to provide those jobs. We are frustrated that in spite of the majority of us who have been voicing our opposition to the policies and programs imposed by Obama and his minions, that we are being ignored or dismissed as dullards who just don't "get" the big picture. But most of all, a growing number of us are longing for a return to a time when our government served us rather than controlled us. We want to return to a government that really is, "of the people, by the people, and for the people" which what we have now most certainly is not that. We want to be in charge of our own lives and our own destinies.

I can't help but think that our founding fathers are rolling over in their graves at how we have so egregiously perverted the lofty ideals upon which this country was founded. It's time to return this country to its people.

Your conclusions are distorted by the warped lens of biased self interest. I see the situation totally different. I see just the opposite of your vision. I see a faction in this country that has always existed and has it's foundations in fascism. They wrap themselves in the flag, spout individual freedoms and base their attacks on their interpretations of what the constitution means. They use the current national problems as a lightning rod to promote fear, hate and discord. They claim the other side of the political coin are enemies of the state and ultimately should be eliminated by whatever means necessary. They make war on the disadvantaged, poor, minorities and newly dispossessed. They hide behind the veil of patriotism while using the frustrated, angry masses to handcuff the workings of government at every turn. They are ready to pick up the peices of their deliberate discord and institute a draconian form of rule that would lock the country into one ideology, one form of social mores and one form of religion. All other ideas and lifestyles are heretical abominations to be eliminated. They are the biggest threat to America that exist today.

Some conservatives seem to want to measure freedom on the basis of how much the taxes are, the higher the taxes, the less freedom. But if we abolished taxes, we would still be shelling out money, this time to the private enterprises that replaced government tax supported services. And constantly being bombarded by requests from private charities to help them help the poor.
Simple, he has a Kenyan father.

The OP is saying nothing more than Thomas Jefferson said many years ago, "May God protect us from politicians who take our money under the pretense of 'taking care of us'" --

We seem to have lost the will as a country to reject career politicians who do little more than dole out our own money ... on pet projects that benefit their own desire for re-election (among local constituents) --- instead of looking-out for the welfare of our nation.

Is there anyone (liberal or conservative) that isn't sick to death of partisan politics -- Can either really stand up and say their 'party' is much better than the other 'party?' We need true leaders and statesmen -- instead of more hack politicians!

Did our Glorious Leader state the other day that we are all afraid of something and that that fear is keeping us from thinking straight? Why yes he did and that makes me wonder just who is afraid of what. I think he has neared understanding that what he is pushing will soon crumble and fall because the people have come to see what he is doing to us.

I say this because I just don't think he really understands what will soon hit him right in the face when the new taxes caused largely by Obamacare hits the vast majority of our people in the face. It is too bad it couldn't happen before November 2 instead of on January 1, 2011. People may not awaken soon enough but when you do you won't like what you have come to see.

you are correct, but so is the OP. Partisan politics is getting us nowhere fast, but it is absolutely out of control now. I have lived in DC for 10 yrs and have never seen it this bad. This isn't just another election

In other words, suffering from a severe case of the sour grapes because a Democrat is successfully digging this country out of the Dubya Dark Ages, bigoted americans have renewed their efforts to shove Bush policies down our throats. These policies, which include the ridiculous notions of "trickle-down", deregulation, and small government, led to the worst economic mess since the Great Depression. These Republican polices created a CRISIS in every domestic category across the board. These Republican policies thought it OK to LIE to Congress to gain congressional approval to head to the Middle East to fight smoke with bullets. This mindset thought it perfectly fine to LIE to the american people about the progress of that war, then lie that Bush should be reelected so they could "finish the job." These policies thought it perfectly fine to spend a TRILLION DOLLARS to lose an ideological war to a militarily inferior opponent. The Republican policies, the ones that bigoted regressives are "waking up" to now created the housing and mortgage crisis, among others.

These regressives who are suddenly "waking up" were silent while their leader Bush was wrecking this country. Republicans ignored every domestic issue to focus on nation-building and "spreading Democracy around the world." These people who are suddenly "waking up", followed a man who thought "dreams take wing" for God's sake. Incredible lunacy.

Even the jargon used here reeks of Klan-speak..."Americans are reclaiming their birthright"??? Unbelievable here in the 21st century. This country does not favor a resurgence of such Klan-like thinking.
