umm.. i think people are looking at two separate cases of halloween outrage here; the OP's is springfield, IL; the one book lover 21 linked is in sacramento
I wonder if the descendants of the thousands of white "criminals" that were hanged before the turn of the century feel its reverse discrimination. I don't ever remember seeing a black man hanged in a western movie.
Dumbasses.
Exactly. It's like some people in this country think that throughout history only blacks have been hung to death. It was a common means of execution since it was cheap and the rope was reusable (environmentally sound). I don't associate a noose with blacks at all and I don't understand why anyone else does either. Of all the people killed by hanging in the past 1000 years what percent were black? 0.001%? 0.01%? It's just another way the NAACP can claim victimhood and explit that for their gain.
I wonder why Fox didn't title it "White Neighbors Want It Removed."
The video report interviews two white people who object to it, one saying it "crosses the line" and another saying she'd go take it down herself if she had to live across from it. It doesn't interview any NAACP representative, nor does it quote any or have a statement from the NAACP.
The article says, "A handful of neighbors, passers-by's, even the NAACP say Witkowski's festive front yard has to go."
So, "even the NAACP" objects, along with neighbors, and how does Fox choose to title the story?
I'm not offended by the man's display, but I don't live there. I am offended by Fox's never-ending baiting with sensationalist headlines that cause people like the OP to fall victim to their prejudices.
UPDATE: some of the people who have called the city government to complain have been people upset because they knew people who committed suicide by hanging.
well, there was an NAACP rep right there in the thick of it:
Quote:
Several people who objected to the display, including Archie Lawrence, president of Springfield NAACP, appeared before the Springfield City Council Tuesday night. Lawrence said the decoration “incites racial hatred and unrest.”

Yeah, the one I posted, as a comparison was in Sacramento 5 yrs ago. My point was that everyone was fine with hanging an American soldier in effigy as freedom of expression, but this harmless Halloween decoration has everyone freaked out.

Well then..Congress needs to enact a law..no more holiday decorations anywhere in the US.
Make everyone behave in a PC way and not offend anyone anymore because we are a country of "sensitive" people who easily get offended by anything we see.
We've already taken "Christmas" out of Christmas.
Become a PC nation, devoid of any individualism, sterile and non offensive.
Become a "Stepford Nation". I guess that's part and parcel of becoming a utopia.
Folks who want to decorate can have their secret closet in their homes.
As for me..I have my WHITE skeleton, ORANGE pumpkin and BLACK CAPED witch on my front porch.
Tolerance works both ways here..Halloween is but for a few weeks; Christmas season a little longer yet the offended can't just look the other way ?
