Processed food, easily available and affordable, and an aversion to physical activity, due to preference or illness (maybe this is where the virus jumps into the story), is the cause of obesity.

In my opinion, the presence of a virus is a coincidence.

Virus my foot. Obesity would be cured if those afflicted would stop shovelling food down their gullets as fast as they can. This kick about how everyone is a victim and it's not really their fault has just gotten comical.

I think a lot of the obesity problem is just as you say, about easy chemical-laden processed food, PLUS both parents are working and no one has time to actually cook. And as much as I hated Home Ec, I don't think boys and girls are taught how to cook and manage food in school anymore and they should be.

Srsly. Second hand fat is the leading cause of anorexia and bulimia, two serious diseases.
