Ehm - the Glorious Loyalty Oath Crusade was supposed to be absurdist satire, guys.

IRONY FLAG ON
Pledge of Allegiance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy (1855–1931), a Baptist minister, a Christian socialist, and the cousin of socialist utopian novelist Edward Bellamy (1850–1898).
The "progressives" who oppose the Pledge are probably annoyed by that vile addition of "under God", that was inserted into the original pledge:

I pledge allegiance to my Flag and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

This "republic" is not to be confused with the "republican form of government" promised in Article 4, Section 4, USCON.

If you want to really know what we've been deprived of, go read this:

Exactly. Individualism, rugged individualism is the exact opposite. Obama did call for for 99% of all that though... The only thing he managed to miss was the proudness of his nation. But that goes back to something different, conservatives embrace the fundamentals of the founders in which individual liberties were key and self determination should be unsuppressed.

Again, if you're for a fundamental change and a bloody insurrection don't be shy. Mean what you say and say what you mean.
Sad you find Mussolini a hero..

and your , "Besides most of those fitting Obama to a tee..."

is not much of a defense of Repubs and their Fascist bent which is so well illustrated in this thread.

"""From the prominent displays of flags and bunting to the ubiquitous lapel pins, the fervor to show patriotic nationalism, both on the part of the regime itself and of citizens caught up in its frenzy, was always obvious. Catchy slogans,....""""

No, the 14 points especially fit the Cheney/Rove administration....and no repug has ever been able to deny or refute it.

"What no one seemed to notice. . . was the ever widening gap. . .between the government and the people. . . And it became always wider. . . the whole process of its coming into being, was above all diverting, it provided an excuse not to think for people who did not want to think anyway . . . (it) gave us some dreadful, fundamental things to think about . . .and kept us so busy with continuous changes and 'crises' and so fascinated . . . by the machinations of the 'national enemies,' without and within, that we had no time to think about these dreadful things that were growing, little by little, all around us. . .
Each step was so small, so inconsequential, so well explained or, on occasion, 'regretted,' that unless one understood what the whole thing was in principle, what all these 'little measures'. . . must some day lead to, one no more saw it developing from day to day than a farmer in his field sees the corn growing. . . .Each act. . . is worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next. You wait for one great shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, will join you in resisting somehow.

You don't want to act, or even talk, alone. . . you don't want to 'go out of your way to make trouble.' . . .But the one great shocking occasion, when tens or hundreds or thousands will join with you, never comes. That's the difficulty. The forms are all there, all untouched, all reassuring, the houses, the shops, the jobs, the mealtimes, the visits, the concerts, the cinema, the holidays. But the spirit, which you never noticed because you made the lifelong mistake of identifying it with the forms, is changed. Now you live in a world of hate and fear, and the people who hate and fear do not even know it themselves, when everyone is transformed, no one is transformed. . . .You have accepted things you would not have accepted five years ago, a year ago, things your father. . . could never have imagined." :

Glad I'm not a PledgeSayer...makes you want to obliterate the right of free speech of, and jail, those who have a different opinion.

You seem to have missed the point (or are unwilling to address the point without skewing it).

Here is a direct question for you: should people be chastised for voluntarily reciting the pledge of allegiance at a rally?

It is a yes or no question. I look forward to your answer.
