There is rising expectation among GOP elites that Palin will probably run for president in 2012 and could win the Republican nomination, a prospect many of them regard as a disaster in waiting. Many of these establishment figures argue in not-for-attribution comments that Palin’s nomination would ensure President Barack Obama’s reelection, as the deficiencies that marked her 2008 debut as a vice presidential nominee — an intensely polarizing political style and often halting and superficial answers when pressed on policy — have shown little sign of abating in the past two years.

"There is a determined, focused establishment effort … to find a candidate we can coalesce around who can beat Sarah Palin," said one prominent and longtime Washington Republican. "We believe she could get the nomination, but Barack Obama would crush her."

IMO, it depends on how many of the people she backed gets elected. If a large number of repubs see the handwriting on the wall and see the voters leaning more to consrvativism, they will wrangle control away from the "elites".

There will definately be less RINOs and more conservative members of the house. Numbers count.

If it were Palin Vs Obama right now there is no question Palin would win. Her support has already unseated incumbant Republicans. She is extremely popular with her base. Obama? Not so much. Independants would break down the middle but with Obama's approval below 50% (WAY below) more of them would break for Palin. Yesah, she would win now. In two years? Who knows. I DO know that the last thing we ever need again is another lukewarm middle of the road media-picked nominee like McCain.
Republicans (and Democrats) should purge all non-party members from their primaries and let the party members pick their nominees. In that matchup I am certain that the Republican would win.

Odds are that if she did win, she'd resign in two years to take a prime time talk show on Fox. Pres only gets 200,000 a year.

Ah, another snarkey reply. Let me ask you, did Obama resign? Did Bidden resign? Did H. Clinton resign?
Maybe they all had legitimate reasons.

They will just generate another lie campaign against her. They have experience with that tactic. Whoops, Sarah P, hmmm, probably won't have to lie about her.

I am so disgusted that I don't care anymore. If the GOP wants to run Palin, let them.

When it comes to leadership, they're scraping the bottom of the barrel. The GOP hardcore "base" is probably 30 percent of voters. They are very vociferous, and they like nothing better than to hear themselves talk.

As an Independent, I am not falling for slogans, soundbites and worn out platitudes. Palin is very good at selling herself. That is it.

Let's see who buys.
