Live Earth concert to produce 74,500 tons of carbon emissions.
Superstars flying 222,623 miles between them to get to the LIVE EARTH concerts...
The total carbon footprint of the event, taking into account the artists' and spectators' travel to the concert, and the energy consumption on the day, is likely to be at least 31,500 tonnes of carbon emissions, according to John Buckley of Carbonfootprint.com, who specialises in such calculations.
Throw in the television audience and it comes to a staggering 74,500 tonnes. In comparison, the average Briton produces ten tonnes in a year.
The concert will also generate some 1,025 tonnes of waste at the concert stadiums - much of which will go directly into landfill sites.

Yeah because I mean, its really their fault they designed the tv's, jets, fuel type, and power plants that pollute. I think the moral of the concert was to introduce people to the idea that policies to curb pollution and encourage investment by big business/govts that makes efficiency part of energy/pollution

It is unwatchable and one of the stupidest ideas ever. If they wanted to raise awareness they could have done a 24 hour thing with information some round tables with some of the more learned people on the subject. The public may have come away with a real awareness but this thing chases you away in like 10 seconds. It will be completely forgettable and a real joke when it is over.

What a silly way/story and a bad spin on a good cause. Sick. Instead of taking action, people find such a low point to argue against it.

yeah, the "celebrities" and "musicians" on it were pretty pathetic about that..
like I need a mental midget like madonna or someone from metallica to tell me something about waste.. those morons are the dictionary definition of waste in every sense.
and I can't wait til someone breaks the story about how al cereal gore actually did make a fortune off these. He claims he's doing it for free, but I know he has another motive, all about the $..

Sometimes you have to spend a little to make a little. The concert might have cost 74.5 but if the people watching will go green by 5% in the life, they'll pay for that concert in the first week.
Awareness.
Having said that, it was simple logic. But I don't believe in Mr Gore or what he's saying.

I think the goal was to bring attention to the problem- if enough people begin to recognize that the climate is indeed rapidly changing- they may be able to defer a wee bit of the deleterious effects.
At this point there is diminishing evidence to dispute that climate change/global warming is not real. Mr. Gore's passion on the issue is admirable-though at times a bit contrived.

Well, he's made a rather large fortune since leaving office and I'm pretty good at math..
I'm all for taking care of the environment and it should be second nature. Don't waste, don't litter, cut back when you can. That's how I live my life and if others would do the same there would be no problems.
However, allowing a country like china (who amazingly hosted one of these concerts) to pollute at will is complete and total BS. Nobody ever holds them accountable and that's what ticks me off most. They are by far the worst at polluting the environment and, except for me, nobody really seems to care..
