I was anticipating them going along with promoting ocean acidification as their backup in case their first scam failed.
And we have the same amount of people and industry that uses the same amount of water as we did for millenia, too!
Global warming is short term. Let's thnk long term. We're all gonna die as the universe expands.

If the city population grew too big for its own good... no bailout... time for the city to decide "which" citizen is evicted from the city... I wonder if its going to be a lottery or if the bureaucrats will pick on the poor folk...

So water will always be there. It might not be cheap though.

Yeah and that would be completely disastrous for the Great Lakes ecosystem as well as put an entire area of the country reliant on a "pipeline" vulnerable to terrorist attacks. The icing on the cake is that no other state has a damn right to water in the Great Lakes. Maybe Californians need to get a grip. I live in SoCal and it's downright disgusting how much everything is irrigated around here. It's a damn desert but you'd never know with all the irrigation.

And desalination is not some pie in the sky fix all. It comes with its own set of problems. I.e. where does all that salt go? Back into the ocean?

Considering the enormity of the oceans I don't see how this could be an issue other than a localized one. They are using desaliantion plants now, any references to this being a problem?

FYI the US is probably the one nation on the planet best suited for the decline of oil because we have plenty of domestic resources to meet those demands.

FYI in the year 1960 there was a prosperous fully developed little Scandinavian coubtry called Norway. This was many years before the oil and gas were found in the North Sea, so Norway didn't have this oil in 1960 and there will still be a Norway in 2060 when the oil is gone and a sustainable high tech high green energy economy is up and running in its place. Norway will be in this future world along with much of northern Europe. Denmark already gets 30 % of its power from wind and waves and the Germans plan to join them. Unlike the Americans who substitute bluster and wishful thinking for hard work and real accomplishment. FYI America is probably one of the least equipped nations to meat the challenges of tomorrow. Americans have a poor regard for education and view science and technology as being for geeks like the Chinese. America unlike China or Germany does not have trillions of dollars in its foreign exchange reserves it has the stagering amount of 48 billion dollars. That puts us in the same league as Paraguay. Also Americans have a international reputation as being poor team players who often welch on their promises infact they don't even work together with their co-nationals. 40 years ago it was a national crisis when we started to import large amounts of oil (at the time only 20% of our national needs). Today we import 70% of our oil and have approached the issue of energy supply with all the seriousness of a bawling baby. America will meet the energy challenges of the 21st century with a huge national temper tantrum.
