I have no desire to move to California. New Mexico is another matter. Staying here in, NH, is too damn cold and expensive.

You couldn't entice me to move to Cali with a free house and a job making twice what I make now. Sure, the weather is great, but everything else? Not so much.

I would easily live in California with enough money.

Well, apparently the Illegal aliens would agree I would love to live in Cali (for the weather and lifestyle), but I cannot abide in how screwed up their politics and economy has become. It reminds me of a great quote by Ronald Reagan (former Cali Gov): "The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

And this poll was dated when? 1955?

I grew up in California. It was a nice place back in the early 60's. Schools were great. By the time I was married and had two children, 1978, we decided to move and I am so glad. Whenever I go back to visit, and that plane starts descending into the brown haze and I see the mass of humanity, I am glad to be out of that.

People in the east move west and peope in the west move east. Natural phenomenom.

Please don't imply California politics is part of the desire to live in CA if that is your intention.

CA is a beautiful place and more of a concept than reality to most people from away.

Current socio-politics makes CA unlivable but someday when sanity returns, the part of CA that didn't fall into the sea will be a popular destination.

Did you know that there are other cities in California besides L.A.?

This seems to be typical of many Angelenos: They're unaware that the state's borders extend outside of L.A. County.

Notably, Texas fell from 4th to 8th place. I'm often lectured by conservatives on this forum that California should be more like Texas. If Texas is so great, why is it #8 on the list?
California would be #1 on my list as well , awesome weather, beaches, mountains, desert, but then I look at the people, schools , politics, regulation, taxes and understand I could never move there even if 2 /3rds of my family does.....so its Texas, Utah , Arizona, Alabama.......

I would seriously question the veracity of this poll that drops Texas from 4 to 8. They are prospering thru smart fiscal policies (could always do better though) and business have been steadily locating their operations there (and quite a few HQ's as well). I would like to see the criteria they used to establish these numbers.
