Republican and Democrat ideology is always changing. Republicans have not always been neo-cons and Democrats have not always been left-wing authoritarians. There have been times in our history when the Republican party has been the liberal party. There have been times in our history when the Democratic party has been the liberal party. These boundaries are always changing, which is why it is so incredibly ludicrous to EVER declare allegience to a party.

Don't confuse liberalism with left-wing authoritarianism. If you don't understand what this means, look up liberalism on google or read wikipedia. It will give a good definition of what liberalism really is, and how there is no liberal party in the US. Both parties are authoritarian.

One of the hardest things to understand right now is that the republicans in office don’t seem to represent the republican party values. Both parties have their problems and differences and they seem to have moved further away from their party values and original party principles. I think both fail their voters.
~ ~ ~

Is it then to say that the independent voter doesn’t support party values? I no longer care too much for either Rs or Ds, but I see the good in each party and hopefully find the politician that provides the same values and ethics that I want in our elected officials.
~ ~ ~

Another point of view about the two party system is that the republicans are bought and paid for by the big business and corporations, where the democrat is supported by individuals and seldom by businesses. You can also think of it this why ~ money buys anything you want if you have enough of it. So is this political party in office now running the nation for the last 6 1/2 years look like the republican party you want to see?

Democrats are supported by unions, which aren't much different than big business. Unions and big business both exploit their supporters and corrupt government.

I agree with the rest of your post
but about that..

this seems to be a common misconception among "Casual Democrats", that Democrats are supported by individuals, and Republicans are supported by big business.

In reality, all three are supported by big business, special interest groups, and individuals.

Left vs. Right is a false choice. They use emotional issues to keep us divided while advancing their own agendas. They get into office and all the campaign promises go out the window. There really is no difference, they just want us to think there is. Keeps us focused on OUR differences. Just re-read this thread, if you identify on one side or the other, you are hateful towards the opposing side in most cases. God forbid we should all work together, we might band together against all the corruption in DC. Think about it. UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL.

I'm sorry but that argument just doesn't hold water.

Businesses would have you working 18 hours with no weekends, no health care, in unsafe working conditions, no workers' comp, no vacation, no sick days, no job security of any kind.

Unions fought for all these items you enjoy. You might want to consider that when you clock out at 5 on Friday and enjoy the weekend with your kids before setting out on your paid vacation where your wife might come down with the flu and get medical treatment provided by your company - but fought for by unions.

Ever had to apply for FMLA? If so, thank Bill Clinton.

So many people seemingly forget that people actually died in the fight for an 8 hour work day. Least one think that 'big business' has one iota of respect for the people it employs.
