Not necessarily, this is going back a few years PA started this initiative and the local Principal put it into high gear. My nephew was chastised for having cup cakes in his lunch. It's not the schools business what ou feed your children, especially when they are eating a very healthy breakfast, lunch and cooked dinner everyday like my nephew. This is just another example of the government going overboard.

Perhaps they should concentrate on teaching? It's not like they can't make improvements there and it is after all there primary job.

It might be if your little darling comes back from lunch on a sugar rush . And taking your quote to an extreme you should be able to see that is IS the schools business.

Not that I have a problem with you giving your kid a cupcake or anything, I'm just pointing out that you may be wrong in some circumstances. If a kid is in school then they become the schools business and some parents are pretty darn stupid. I'm don't favor over regulating but I'm also not buying the idea that they shouldn't have any input and should shut their eyes and keep quiet if they notice a problem.

Who chastized your nephew and how? I'm guessing it was handled with an "uh huh" and an eye roll. That's how I would have handled it anyway.

Fighting the good fight as always-- With the growing obesity epidemic-- and the known links between good nutrition and positive behavior and achievement in school-- it seems like Palin is just stirring up controversy to keep her name in the news. She does it well, and the mass media is complicit in the idiocy.

Just to respond to some of the ridiculous responses this will get-- No, I am not afraid of her. No, limiting in sweets in school, does not prevent parents being able to parent...
Palin is not a politician, she is an opportunist. She looks down on the poor and middle class children of America who probably get one or two meals a day at public school (since their parents cannot afford private schools). Now nutrition for school children is "bad" in her book?

Do you know anything about the school lunch controls?
And do you know how the 'nutrition' being shoved down these people's throats is actually faulty? How there could actually be healthier meals if there wasn't some stupid ancient pyramid that had to be followed?

As for sodas and vending machines in school...I actually agree. They don't belong there. BUT...we had them at my school and I didn't use them. Why? Because my mother packed me a nutritious lunch and snack every day and I didn't have any extra money in my pocket to buy garbage.

If it were my kid I would have sent him to school the next day with a box of cupcakes and 2 liter of Jolt.

It's been a while and I don't remember the whole story except someone in the school system gave him a hard time about it, I believe it was the Principal himself. The guy was apparently a health nut. They sent home a list of suggestions as to what was "acceptable" , cup cakes obviously were not on the list.

You guys just crack me up. Are you aware (apparently not) that the federal govt. subsidizes school lunches? The school lunch program is part of the US Dept. of Agriculture.

As an aside, this thread is about Sarah Palin, not Michelle Obama.
You are aware that the federal government uses our money to fund these programs and does not have it's own money as your post would imply.
This is the problem with agency's staffed with bureaucrats who answer to no one but themselves.
Heres an idea, let the school districts ask the taxpayers what items should be served in the cafeteria.
After all,it's our dime.

Palin philosophy is the stuff Charles Dickens exposed in his book "Oliver":

No, no, no. Palin just believes that "School Nutrition" is a city in the Country of Africa. It ain't regular Amerikin stuff, so she speaks out agin it.

Frank do you want to have a hand in choosing what foods should be served in school cafeterias now or would you just be happy if 'our dime' didn't help to pay for school lunches in general?
