My superficial observation is that he has seemed to portray himself as a legitimate anti establishmentarianist. I say he "has" because of his lifestyle changes it appears he has shortened his life from the smoking and the drinking, etc.
Now, I personally see many arguments of his as valid but after "his" Iraq argument he seems to be against conventional wisdom. As an intellectual should he/ is he perceived as against this and where does he fall? A poor set up, but it seems that Christopher needs to be analyzed at this time
I send Mr. Hitchens my very best wishes in his battle with cancer. His is a passionate and lucid voice in the contemporary cultural conversation, with whom do not always agree but for whom I have the utmost respect as an original and provocative thinker.
I love the Hitch! His articles, books, interviews and documentaries are smart, funny, and thought provoking. I hope he recovers and continues to share his unique view on a variety of subjects with us for many years to come.
CH is a smart man, but his arguments against creationism arnt very good. In his book, he does more complaining about religion than he does to prove it wrong
God Is Not Great, How Religion Poisons Everything by Christopher Hitchens
I think he is a true liberal unlike so mnay that call themselves liberals but really are just wanting so thing free. He spoke of Saddam in terms that a true liberal would in wantig him elimianted no mattewr what the offical cuase.

Hitchens is no "liberal", as he puts it, "I am no longer a socialist, but I still am a Marxist".

Your opinion. He absolutely CRUSHED religion in that book...and in a scaringly convincing fashion too. And he does it in debates too.
He's a brilliant man. I think he was wrong on Iraq, but outside of that, he's great.
No; he is a true liberal but certainly not a progressive has are so many in this country. That is more a term to describe those who want progress for themsleves and think little of the world. That is what we see as liberal in this country which is quite different from the world view of liberal. The world view of liberal is i the best for average person and means following a very displend set of rules as has been seen.
His writings and attitude are a little pedantic, rambling, and abrasive. I wasn't overly impressed with any of his writings so far.
However, I appreciate Richard Dawkins and Michael Parenti for their exquisitely progressive writings and thought. Michael Parenti being the best.
