I am proud to be the first to vote INCREASE foreign aid to Israel (if they need it). With all the haters against Israel, we must make sure they are safe and do not go to war. Even if the U.S. stopped funding Israel, we would still be viewed as their allies and we would to targeted if Israel went to war.
Besides, it's not like Israel isn't helping us. They are trying to help us secure our airlines, we just won't listen.
yes we could save some money initially. But, what happens if & when Israel goes to war?
Well so what if they do. They went to war invading Lebanon back in 2006, has this profoundly changed the world? Actually the Israeli's got waxed by shoulder fired anti-tank missiles and dropped back to punt with good old fashioned artillery and air strikes. Apparently it was much easier shooting the fish in the Gaza barrel.
Since when does the United States have to look out for anyone else other than the United States? When did the US tax payer take second chair to Israeli citizens? Did we side with the Brits or Argentinians when they went to war in the Falkland Islands? The Brits have been a far stronger ally in every possible sense of the word than the Israeli's have, but we don't concern ourselves over whether they can take care of themselves or not.
The Israelis do not allow us to use their airspace, nor are we allowed to station troops there. As previous US generals have pointed out, Israel cannot be counted on to provide any strategic support in the event of Russian intervention in the region, which was the original case when Russia was arming Syria.
What is most unusual is that many people of right leaning politics will carry on relentlessly about self sufficiency and self reliance, how American poor people need to get off their backsides, how we need to be fiscally responsible but will bend over far enough to shove their head where the sun don't shine in order to dole out billions to this welfare state. All the while ceaselessly pointing out how superior Israel's military is and how it can kick anyones backside in the region.
So, let them take care of their own affairs as they see fit and stay out of this entire grotesque and failed welfare scam all together.
Would you like to save the tax payers 2,739,726.03 + every day?
Sure as long you understand that $2,054,794.00 + every day will not be spent in the US by Israel.
If you cut off Israel, then you have to cut off Egypt too. These two countries were granted these funds during the signing of the Peace accords. But no one complains about Egypt.

So if we give them this tax payer money, which they then spend on private arms manufacture, then isn't the United States government just giving Israel a credit card (which we also pay the interest on) to shop and enrich arms manufactures at the expense of the US tax payer?
What a damn sweet deal, please tell me how I get on this welfare program.

Show me the bases where US troops are housed. Not the 120 military personnel manning a US radar station at Dimona for Israel's benefit, also at the cost of US tax payer dollars.

How about we save some real money. Walk out of Iran & Afganistan on New Years eve and save the tax payers over 138 Billion dollars in 2011.

And who works for these manufacturers? Americans. And who supplies these manufacturers? More Americans. Its a jobs bill.
Israel is the only country that is required to spend 75% of its aid in the USA. Why don't you go after the other recipients who just get to pocket it?
There are approx. 310,750,000 Americans. Do you really think an extra 2.73 cents per day is going to make a real big difference in their lives??

If it is a jobs bill why not cut out the middle man and just give the money to the US military to buy the stuff?
Additionally, considering the budget shortfalls of most US states are around or less then 3bn why not give the money to the states to help them pay off their shortfalls so they can avoid raising taxes and making painful cuts? That money could be used much more effectively domestically.

America has been in the habit of buying it's international friends since the cold war era. I think it's time we rethink our foreign policy cancerning all foreign aid at the risk of offending some very strong lobbists in Washington. I'd like to see both parties grow a set concerning this issue.
Finally, when you multiply 2.73*365(the number of days in a year) you get around $1,000 and that can make a huge difference depending on who you are.
A little correction to your math: 2.73 cents is .0273. Thus thats $10 and not $1000.
