That statement is simply false. Apparently you have no idea what you're talking about.
Back in the 60s Nikita Khrushchev promised communism for the next generation, we know how that worked out.
The Soviet Union never achieved communism. They sure were enjoying socialism for good seventy years though.

Yes, I do! I don't mind paying for older people's costs. Like I said, it's called "solidarity." We sure as hell can't trust the stock market, Enron, or Bernie Madoff to look after our retirement. Thanks for asking, though.

My FREEDOM is the most important thing in my life and people have DIED for more than 200 years for it.

It would be a slap in the face to everyone who has fought and served to keep our nation free of tyranny. Give your head a shake man. NOTHING is more important. Nothing.

This is emotivism at its most obvious.

The dismissal of the importance of libraries- i.e. centers of reading, learning and thought- is not surprising at all from someone who has merely regurgitated the polarizing ideology held during the Cold War.. though the Cold War is long since over.

When will some people outgrow the Cold War ideology?

You may not mind paying for older people's costs (suspect you don't have to nickels to rub together), but we sure as hell mind paying for yours!!!

The question boils down to:
[A] Do you have Creator endowed rights, or
[b] Do you have government endowed rights?

Under pre-socialist American law, it was "A". Governments were instituted to secure those inalienable rights.

Under post-socialist law, it is now "B". You must pay a tax and get permission to live, work, buy, sell, travel and die.

If you don't have freedom, you will have no choice of reading material in your libraries. Your reading material will be supplied to you according to what the governing body deems right for you. So, what will be the value of that library that you prefer over freedom?

I'm with 20yrsinBranson on this one

I wonder too Red. But, I am used to responses like the poster you responded too.

Some people continue to insist on equating Communism with Socialism and at this point, I really don't care. Their problem.

In a socialistic society that works (or a society that incorporates a strong thread of socialism into it's workings), the vast majority contributes to the pool that then affords the cost for
-elderly to be taken care of
- for mothers to take a humane leave of absence from work to care for their newborn (and even for fathers to take a bit of paternity leave)
-for young adults to gain university education without going 1000's of dollars deep into debt

to name just a few things....

I am starting to realize that many Americans freak out with the term socialism because in their mind they equate it to a welfare state in which nobody has motivation and in which the income you earn is sacrificed to the societal good. And no good wholesome American will accept the idea of their hard earned money going to help the common good.

Despite the fact that many people's tax cuts are almost equivalent to what some citizens of democratic Socialist societies see but for us Americans, the return in "benefits" is incomparable.

I actually do understand some of what it means. I will admit I am no expert, but I doubt you are either. I just refuse to demonize socialism, as a concept, having seen some of it's more beneficial workings.

I know you do. That's because the difference between you and me is I have compassion. You don't. That's why I find it ironic that Dick Cheney needs a heart transplant. How could that be possible for a heartless bastard like him? I say we should just tell him "*********," and make him pay out-of-pocket for his own procedure and see how he likes it.
