Wikileaks is based in Sweden, so there is nothing the U.S. government can do to shut them down.

BS. The US government controls the internet entirely because it controls the domains. The physical location of the server doesn't matter because it's IP address and domain alias are controlled here.

geeez Kevin you dropped the ball on this post.

wikileaks only publishes things the Fed is OK with? Sure. And why is Bradley Manning in jail facing decades in prison?

He was in on this?

Yes, of course. Sweden is a country where freedom of speech actually means something. It is worrying to read threads on this website promoting hatred and violence against Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder, who has understood that Sweden is a safe haven.

There is also now a Swedish investigation on unauthorized US surveillance in Sweden and Norway. Read Swedish justice minister confirms US surveillance - The Local

I'm no expert on this stuff, but from what I've read, they are nearly impossible to take offline. Apparently people have been trying to take them offline for years without success. Here's an article that gets into it.

The US Government no longer controls the internet nor the domain names. It was turned over to ICANN.org

If you still don't think so, try going to this site- which worked a day ago- and see what pops up now!
This domain name has been seized by ICE - Homeland Security Investigations
Do you people HONESTLY think that the government would shut down a site that sells fake handbags and allow one that post state secrets to remain active?? If you believe that, I got some things to sell you!
You can shut down a website but you cannot erase information that has already been copied onto thousands of other websites and downloaded by millions of people.

Any government can block access to certain websites. I've heard that in England, you can't even view certain YouTube videos.

China, India, Pakistan--you don't think they block content to their citizens?
